No sound at all from the CB

2017 DX3 TS: Cobra 29 LTD

My CB radio turns on and lights up. When I press the microphone button the needle sweeps back and forth. However, I don't get any sound at all even when I turn the volume and squelch back and forth. No static, nothing. Where does the sound come from? Is the CB speaker in the unit itself?

I did the CB tuning but that did change anything.

Thanks
Tom

No sound

Make sure the CB/PA slider switch is in the CB position.

Could be that the speaker is blown.

Mine is the same, can't get a sound out of it. I haven't spent a lot of time on it but have checked all the settings and still nothing.

Besides making sure the CB/PA switch is in the CB position, check your squelch (SQL) knob behind the volume knob. If you turn it all the way down then you will hear static unless your speaker is blown.

Set RF Gain all the way clockwise.

CB radio

As a professional trucker I have had many CB radios over the years, Most people do not understand about ground, antenna wave length, RF gain, and many other things that contribute to the use of this type of radio. My suggestion would be to find a CB repair shop, can be found at most major truck stops, and tell them you need your antenna matched to the radio. You may even get a peak and tune done to it at the same time. Most problems with these radios come from the antenna and the ground. Remember this also, the longer you try to use your radio that is not properly set up, means that you may be burning the finals out within the radio. I would just take it to a CB shop. It shouldn't cost over $20 or $30 dollars to have this done and take no longer than 30 or 40 minutes.

Yesterday I got the time to work on this problem. I got access to the rear of the CB radio and found the antenna connection was loose. Tightened it up and gave it a test. Now I do get sound and even heard someone talking. Thanks for all the help everyone.
