Bought a new 5th wheel earlier this year to replace an old Terry 26 footer.

The Dometic fridge in my new to me 5th wheel would never get cooler then 45 degrees in the hot day with outside temperatures at 99 degrees F but would get to 38 degrees at night.

I snipped the tip and also installed four 120mm computer case cooling fans in my roof vent.

When I got home from work with temperature today being 103 degrees F outside, my fridge was at 30.2 degrees. I am still slowly adjusting the snip the tip adjustable thermistor so I can get a steady 34 deg F temp setting.

I am using a digital Datatek thermometer to read temperatures and with its high and lowest temperature stored values, I can see how well the fridge works when I'm gone and it gets hotter.

I shut my fans off in the evening and turn them back on in the morning.

I'm a firm believer in cooling fans and "snip the tip" based on my personal experience.

Heck, even if my Dometic thermistor was good, I'd replace it for the easy of adjusting the snip the tip device instead of sliding the thermistor up/down a cooling fin.

While I made the same mods, I have my fans on a thermostat and leave them run as needed. The slider would never stay in place either. I also think the snip the tip mod made the biggest difference. The old slider 'stat never kept the temp the same. It fluctuated all the time. Now, it stays at the temp as set.

I installed 2, 6" computer fans on the outside fridge door, and two more in the vent, near the roof. Made a huge difference.
