Rev 24RB- Black Tank Valve Not Closing 100%

2016 Rev 24RB- great RV!

Since purchase- black tank valve does not shut all the way, getting worse, now very hard to push and pull. Watched lots of Youtube on greasing options and replacing- but the black and grey valves for 24RB are in the same box, not separate. We practice the GEO black tank cleaning method.

Options to lube or clear?

What part is necessary if we choose to replace the valves? Is a scematic available?

Thanks!

Can you do away with the cable system and install electric valves?

I’m not familiar with them as an aftermarket purchase. My last diesel pusher had them and I was happy with the way they performed. Perhaps someone on the forum has installed them?

changed my black water valve on my 2015 REV- not too hard. Now the gray water is real hard to open and close so I guess I'll order another one . But I might have to think hard on these electric valves first ?

Barker valves make one too. And they sell them on Amazon it appears.

Thanks Brian-
Can you let me know the part to simply replace the current black/grey valve pulls? They are individual pulls located in the same box so it appears the replacement is a single unit.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but I would recommend taking this to a dealer for replacement. If you're just looking to replace "like for like", it is multiple parts. There is a 3" valve and a 1.5" valve. A service only dealer might actually be able to adjust them without replacing them..it could just be the way the able is routed or got moved...or debris???

It could be debris caught in the shutoff valve that is blocking it from closing properly.

Shortly after I picked up my new 5th wheel trailer, one of my gray tanks wouldn't seal very well as it dripped gray water into my discharge line. Then, while hooked up to a campground for several weeks, I found a large flexible plastic strip at the connection to my outside discharge line. The plastic apparently worked its way from the valve to the outside connection and got hung up on the coupling to my discharge hose. The valve no longer leaked for a short while. When the problem returned, I took my trailer back to the dealer and they replaced the valve and found more plastic in the tank. They replaced the valve since it was shutting on the plastic and deformed the gasket. I've had no problems since.

Blackwater valve

You have toilet paper stuck in the valve try flushing tank but may need to take the valve out but I will tell you it is a real pain to get it out they put them together before they install it

try to make sure before you buy anything that it will clear the body work.

I bought a Valtera T-58 valve but it won’t get past the rear “quarter panel.” It would require making the sewer discharge pipe end lower which would cause clearance issues.

I like the idea of the electric valves but make sure they will fit properly.

Try lubricanting the valves

I did this and it really helped, assuming you can get to them.

Hi Brian- I really just want to replace the black tank valve myself, like for like. Bad experiences with service dealers lately (Mike Thompson RV) and they add a whole level of unecessary complication. However, I need to know the Rev replacement valve requirements which seem to be one of the following:
1. Valterra ABS Gate Valve- 3-Inch Hub x Spigot Connection OR
2. A similar gate valve with a longer cable
Not sure how far the handle is from the actual valve- can you tell me?

Valterra Black 3" Valve TC372 Flexible Cable Kit-72 with 3" Valve at Amazon ( like for like ) amazon ( make real sure the tank is empty before changing this - lol )

sounds similar to the problem we had. it turned out to not be the valve itself. it was the cable mechanism that was too long, poorly routed, and had developed a kink. shortened it up and it works better than new now.

Solid Recommendations

Steve- great, now I know what to buy.

Chickdoe- Checking on the cable is a very good recommendation- it's been troublesome, but I thought it was the non-closing valve. Will closely check this area too.
