Sliding Door Handles

Not a huge issue but I have to ask. And if I don't ask this question now I will probably forget!

Anyway, door handles on the interior sliding/pocket doors that separate the different rooms on the DX3 and Dynaquest XL. Not sure the technical name for them but:

Right now, I have seen only the extremely inexpensive door handles/locks on any slide doors; however, I actually just saw the "nicer" more heavy duty slide door handles on a 2020 Dynaquest XL 37RB for sale. Much better mechanism, allows the sliding door to be locked anywhere along the glide path, locks better and at minimal increase in cost.

Is this the new normal across the board? I sure hope so. Just a nice touch/upgrade that is becoming the standard in most other coaches.

Sort of petty but just wondering.

Without a picture I cannot be sure....but my guys were directed to convert all sliding doors to a "spring loaded" style. Its a black handle with a spring loaded mechanism inside with a rod that runs from the top to the bottom. Pushing down on the handle, retracts the rod.

The issue was, with any "door latch" if you have it DOWN in the locked position and try to close the door, the rod can "break" the parts and or pieces that it would stick into. Step 1 (quickest fix) was to use a metal plate with hole instead of wood.

Step 2 (and much longer) was to redesign ALL openings and doors to accommodate the other handle. It "ramps" up on the locking portion so you cannot really break anything "in theory". I also know where there's a will there's a way.

Thanks BC...Sorry no photo but the spring loaded style that are black are, IMHO, the better way to go.

But, yes, where there is a will there is a way to break them.

I am glad to see that you all changed to the spring loaded style...just a better option in my mind. Those older style ones are just like the ones I replaced on a pocket door while remodeling my home built in the 70s.

Great choice to go with the more modern looking/better actuating spring loaded door handles!
