Step Lights

While crawling around under our DX3 I noticed two wires dangling down below the entry steps. The label on the pair says “step lights”.

It seems that these wires only see 12V when the ‘Grab Bar’ switch is enabled.

There is an orange/amber LED that lights up when the steps are deployed, but it doesn’t provide much light at night. Has anyone used this connection to install a flood light of sorts that wound really light up the steps at night?

Thanks!
JT

On my old unit I wired a pair of led lights in with the step light to provide light on the steps. Works pretty good. They were cheap ones that surface mounted and lasted 5 years.

I don't have a Dynamax but are your steps Kwikee and is the wire purple? If neither, disregard.

Yes, I believe they are Kwikee.

I'll have to double check, but I think the purple wire might be going to the existing amber light that comes on when the steps deploy. I think this dangling pair was white and a green wire with a label around both that read 'step light'.

If it was purple I could give you some insight, I am not familiar with your Kwikee steps. Sorry.
