Sumo springs

Has anyone installed Sumo springs on their Ram 5500?

sumo springs

yes and no. I like the chassis. We also own a Ram 3500 dually we use for a pickup camper. have used Rams for pickup campers for 15+ yrs. if my wife doesn't stop me, a new one will shortly be on the way. so, to be clear, i am not complaining about the chassis.
however, on roads with broken pavement, chuckholes, and patch after patch like we've endured in new brunswick, nova scotia, prince edward island, plus many of our poorly maintained roads.

i "think/hope" that sumo springs would reduce the shock that is inherent in steel sprung suspensions when faced with sharp-edged pavement unevenness, chuckholes and patch after patch.

google Motorhome magazine for an interesting relevant article.

also, note that jayco offers suspension enhancements called "jayco plus" that includes sumo springs.

also, tiffen is offering sumo springs as a factory installed options on its ford f53 chassis.

there must be a reason??

Not saying my setup is anything like yours but this is my experience:

When truck is loaded up, sumo springs took a lot of the road shock out of the drive. Empty- not so much.

Fords ride like crap so they need all the mods they can get to get even close to a decent ride. The 5500 rides like a class A but with better handling. I see no need for anything on the 5500 unless you just like to spend money.

Wink sumo springs

yes, i do like to spend money, otherwise what good is it?
seriously, i'm happy for you that you like the ride. but, for the roads, we've experienced the ride can be jolting. note the above post.

The mileage I put on the 30FW, I felt like it rode great as well....until the tires heated up. Granted, I was fairly empty and tires were at max pressure and it was 96 out. In the morning it was just fine...then by noon-1pm the ride got a little stiff. That tells me, pressure would have been the first thing I checked if it were mine.
