What is this thingy on the mirror?

Just noticed this thing on the bottom of the driver's side mirror while cleaning bugs off it. Any idea what it is?

After reading your post I had to go out and check. I have one of those "thingies" too. I had never noticed it before. I have no idea what it's for. A little research may be required.

Thermometer?

Could it be the thermometer for measuring the outside temperature? The thermometer for my Silverado is inside of my passenger-side mirror.

Not a bad guess. Had a bolt on the mirror of my 82 3/4 ton Surburban that did just that. Adjusted the tension on the mirror.

If so, wouldn’t there also be one on the passenger’s side mirror?

Mirror thingy

Hugh, I was changing the marker bulbs on my mirrors just yesterday and saw this for the first time. There is a connector on the inside with two wires running who knows where. My guess would be a temperature sensor. It was on the passenger side of my 2015 F250. Weird this would be posted a day later. Duh duh duh duh.

Looks like a temperature sensor to me. Now I wonder where the sensors are on our rig and toad.

Temp sensor seems reasonable..so it is probably a "Self Destruct button for Zombie Apocalypse".

Yes outside air temp sensor if you have a diesel. Can't put it in grille like most because of winter cover will make it go crazy.
