36 qbok with short bed, slider hitch?

I currently have a 2011 f250 crew cab short bed, towing a cougar 5ver with no slider hitch. Cougar advertised there ability for tight turns with short beds, but Sabre doesn't seem to say anything about it. Fixing to order a 36qbok and I'm not sure if there front caps will allow the same amount of turning as I have now with out a slider hitch.

With or without the trail air/tri-glide inbox? My wife and I feel like the camper sits further back with the new hitch (we had it upgraded earlier this year).

was going to order it with the trailair pinbox. but its hard to determine with the placement of the pinbox and the curvature of the corners of the front cap if it will clear. short of hooking up to one and actually testing it, kind of hard to get dealer to do that, I was looking to see if anyone was actually towing this model with a short bed and no slider.

I'm guessing mine is going to be a pretty good example of what your going to run into.
No ford or trail air but a sabre and a short box.

I pulled a 34tbok for two years with an f250 short bed, non-slider and never had any close calls. I camp mainly in state parks and I usually have to jackknife pretty tight to fit the spaces off the drives. I'm picking up our new Sabre in a couple weeks, but now have a long bed. I love our companion 5er hitch and would've gotten the slider version for peace of mine. Like Turbs said, is there when/if you need it.

I've got a slider hitch by pull rite and I'm glad I have it. I have an F-350 short bed as well. Only time I've needed it was at Myrtle Beach. The sites down at Pirateland are tight with a 42' long trailer.

I have a 2015 puma 295 bhss and tow it with a 2006 ford f250 short bed crew diesel. First 5th wheel camper for me. I can make a pretty tight turn without releasing the slider. But one day backing into my own driveway I was a little off, had the truck turned pretty tight and the front of the camper just touched the rear window of the truck and broke it. Forgot the release the slider. Hopefully I never do that again...lol

I've got a chevy short bed, non slider b&w on the furthest rearward setting and I've never had problem with my 36qbok. I won't turn tight enough to ever have to worry about hitting the cab, but that's my own personal "thing". I dont like all the stress put on the frame, suspension and tires, wheels and hubs from tight turns.

Here's this past weekend heading out to our seasonal. You might be able to reference that to your bed setup. And a couple from last year when we picked it up

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I will put it on and see how it physically looks and then I can always just add the slider if it looks like it might be tight. Better safe than sorry.

So I've had the new qbok for 3 months and made several trips in different parks and no problem. Still have good turning. I have the B & W non slider but with the support arms in the rearward most position.

I have the b&w turnover ball in my truck as well but decided to go with the pull rite slider.

I agree you probably have enough turning radius, but it only takes one slip and boom your trip is ruined and so is your truck and camper. So my thinking was, why take a chance? The pull rite auto slider is a great hitch and I have peace of mind that I won't mess anything up. There have been times at Pirateland campground in Myrtle Beach that had I not had the slider I would've tore my truck up. It's a tight campground and you have to almost jake knife to get a 42' fifth wheel backed into some of those sites. I will say it's the only place I've been that's like that but again it only takes only slip up and your back glass is busted and the front cap on your $40k trailer.

Ok. Slider it is.
Was really hoping for the Hensley, but I guess I need the slide.

Oh, and I'm in Canada....
So it's a $55k trailer. Lol

I’m amazed that so many people are able to get away without a slider. I have a 2015 Ram 3500 CC SB and my dealer told me I would definitely need a slider so I took his word for it and bought the Pullrite auto slider. I have gotten out of my truck a few times while backing up, I’m not a freaking professional truck driver OK, and even with the slider my QBOK comes alarmingly close to the cab. I do have my hitch set up about 3/4 of an inch in front of the axle center line but the hitch has 11 inches of travel.

Still no problems with my 36 and a short bed gm with a b&w companion non slider on rear setting. I wont attempt an area that is so tight where i would come close to needing a slider. Im also use to running tripple axle trailers and you cant turn them very tight without tearing something up on the trailer. Multi- point turns are your friend. Just dont try to get it all in one shot. Pride cost to much, just try it again (and again if necessary ) if its not in the right spot.

Ps. Dodges do have a crazy short clearance between rear axle and rear of cab. A slider may be a must have on them.
