Palomino Sabre Cargo Carrier handling 450 Lbs.

My Sabre 31CKTS came with the cargo carrier, and is rated at 450 lb. carrying capacity. Has anyone used this to carry a 400 lb motor scooter, like a Vespa or Burgman?

Thanks. I guess I really need confirmation on that cargo carrier's ability to handle 450 lbs. if so, it really shouldn't matter what is on it, but what the gross weight is.

I got a 2012 I'm 2 owner mind don't have the cargo rack wonder were I could find one

That's 450 lbs static weight.
If there's any possible way the scooter can bounce I'd be very careful.
I hual my side kick grill and cornhole boards on it.
When we dry camp I hual coolers on it.

You mean they put a 450lb limit on it but it is not 'safe' to carry 450bls?

What year was your Sabre made?

One model offered a cargo rack for a year or so then removed the option due to frame damage claims. I don't remember which model/division it was.

So, they are saying the cargo carrier they installed at the factory with a 450lb. Load rating shouldn't be usd to carry anything more than bicycles? Is it the rack that they are worried about, or the weight on the frame or mounts?

Does this mean I should replace the rack? If so, can I install a rack made for hauling a scooter on this 5th wheel?

My rack is rated for 450# too. I haven't hauled anything on it since I couldn't stick the pins in to lock it down till I reamed them, plus I didn't get the pole for about a month.
It is attached to the frame and not the bumper though.
If it was me, I'd get a couple of bigger kids to jump up and down on it and watch the frame flex or how the camper reacts. Depending on how that goes, maybe try something in the 2-300# range while towing and have someone else video it while you are driving over road joints and other bumps, and see how that goes.

We just bought smaller hitch receiver pins. We use the bigger ones to keep the rack up and the smaller ones when the rack is down. Much easier then getting things shaved to fit.

Careful about voiding any remaining warranty you may have.

It just took me a couple minutes. Ran a 3/4" or whatever size it was drill bit in it. Works like it should and no play

My cargo carrier rack is mounted with brackets to the frame as well. It seems pretty strange that they would install a 450 lb. rated hitch if it couldn't handle the weight, or if the frame or axles couldn't handle the weight load on the rear of the vehicle. The rack is pretty substantial; the frame mounting brackets seem to be adequate. I think I would definitely change out the mounting bolts though, as they are probably 5/16" from looking at them.

What a response from the factory...like seeing a sticker inside my (advertised) running shoes that says recommended for walking only! LOL
But...I wouldn't test the 450lb rating while bouncing down the hwy ')
