Traveling back and forth during the winter months

Greetings, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Indiana. My DW and I are approaching the next phase of our lives and eventually plan to travel during the winter months. As of now our thought process is to travel/camp for two maybe three weeks at a time, come home for a few weeks and repeat. So my question to fellow Forest River Junkies is does anyone take off like I described, and if so how do you handle the winterizing of.your RV during the winter months? Next question is how are states such as Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia during winter?

Thanks in advance for your wise words of wisdom.

If by saying next phase, you mean retired.....go South for the winter and stay south.

Regardless of what kind of RV one has, winterizing is only one part of travel during the winter months. The repeated exposure to sand, salt, snow, rain on your undercarriage.....along with bumpy roads on a rig that may be extremely cold and subject to banging and twisting, your just asking for troubles down the road.

Also...the states you list are not exactly free of winter conditions you'll see at home in Indiana.....just less severe and shorter.

I'm only nine months late coming to the conversation. Yes, we take off just as you described, always watching the weather of course. The road conditions in Tennessee are just like Indiana only shorter in duration per each event.

We winterize 2 or 3 times each season because when the grandkids say come on over, its time to purge the pink juice and go. I removed the rear wall panels in the basement storage area to gain access to the water pump on our RK Sabre. Easier from the street/drivers side due to it's location directly behind the utilities control panel.

By removing the water inlet fitting at the pump from the fresh tank and installing a 90° ball valve from Lowes (with a T fitting for a second valve) I am able to connect a short piece of hose directly to a gallon jug of RV antifreeze. $2.50 to winterize and maybe 10 minutes, plus no pink juice in the fresh tank. Be sure to treat the sink and shower drains every time with this procedure.
