Question 2401R MBS Diesel Oil changes

Does anyone know of a decent place to have the oil changed in 2401MBS, in the Phoenix Arizona area, excluding Camping World in Mesa? I've thought of calling the MB dealership in Chandler?

There has to be more then CW selling these units in that area, the Benz dealer i'm sure would be happy to do the change for a chunk of change.

Mercedes Benz dealers or Freightliner. Give the place a call and ask if they do maintenance on MBS motorhomes. Tucson and Flagstaff MBS dealers do service motorhomes.

Robert Crist and Company RV

This dealership does do oil changes and is located in Mesa, AZ on Main Street. Give them a call and get a price quote. They have great customer service.

When I had a 2010, 3500 series MB Sprinter, I always took it to a MB dealer every 10,000 miles for the MB recommended service. Yes, MB service IS expensive BUT they do it right. I joined the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. That entitled me to a 10% discount on parts and service. At a Passport America Fun Rally last week in Tucson, AZ, I heard that MB now had a 20,000-mile interval between service! The MOST important service is to check your tires EVERY driving day ( cold PSI; BEFORE you start driving). It IS a pain to get the dualies but, it NEEDS to be done. A TPMS can make that job a LOT easier.

I use the MB dealer in Chandler every year for an oil change. Yes a little more expensive but each year there are software updates that I believe are only available to the dealer. Bill Stamper is the sprinter specialist at the dealer and IMO is an excellent resource for sprinter questions and issues

MBS Oil Change

I use Arrowhead MB as they are a Sprinter dealer/service location. Yes Expensive, but we have an investment to protect. As a previous reply stated, they also update the imbedded computer which is also important with this complex machine we love (?) and cherish. Also DEF computer updates - a PIA

Don't forget, it's not just an oil change. It's an A or B service interval. I'm sure you guys know that, but just for anyone new to this....

I have read that with a bit of creative begging when the computer is being upgraded at MB the computer can be reset so in the event of a DEF failure one is NOT locked out to 10 starts .

Might be worth a sawbuck to the tech to not have to fear this troublesome system., and being stranded.

I spent some time reading the owners manual today, may have wasted my time,.....but. I read where the 6 cyl. diesel has a normal oil consumption of 1 qt. per 650 miles ?? I thought the fear was diesel dilution, and now I read this ?? What are real folks seeing out of the Sprinters? Also got 6 qts of Mercedes oil from Amazon today for $50.

I performed the first oil change at about one year and 7000 miles on our 2015 MBS. I may have added less than one-half quart during that time.

We have only driven 4100 miles since that oil change and the oil level has not moved. I will have the oil analyzed at the next change, but I attribute the non-existent consumption to a good engine that was properly broken in.

I have read in various owners manuals specifications for oil consumption and I believe it's just CYA for the manufacturers. I have never had an engine consume anywhere near the maximum allowable. My niece's late model Subaru did and Subaru replaced the short block.

If you are concerned about fuel dilution, have the oil tested.

8,200 miles before oil change - never added ANY oil. (Never needed any.) (Oil changed due to elapsed time not mileage.)

Many folks brag about a low oil consumption , but reality is OIL is left on the cylinder walls , and burns off with every single power stroke.

So when the lubricant level does not go down it is blowby and the resulting liquids that make up for the oil used.

That's why we change the oil on either (shorter) of two skeds.

Miles driven or time in the crankcase.

* I don't think we were bragging, just reporting our experiences.

but reality is OIL is left on the cylinder walls , and burns off with every single power stroke.

* That is somewhat true of all internal combustion engines, but the extent of oil remaining and burned off depends on how good a job the piston rings do of "scraping" it back down into the oil pan. This is why oil consumption typically increases with age, as the cylinder walls and/or the piston rings wear down. For the MBS, they do a great job and very little oil is consumed. It certainly doesn't use the amount referenced earlier in this thread.

So when the lubricant level does not go down it is blowby and the resulting liquids that make up for the oil used.

* What does that mean? What is "it"? What are the "resulting liquids"? If this were true, wouldn't the oil level increase? (This can happen with biodiesel fuels.

That's why we change the oil on either (shorter) of two skeds. Miles driven or time in the crankcase.

* Roger that.

check oil light after oil change

Have a 2016 Sunseeker 2400W MBS. Just had a local RV Service Center do an oil change. After picking up the RV and being on the road for about a half hour the check oil light came on. We got off the highway and stopped at a gas station. I checked the dip stick and it didn't look like there was anything registering (I got fooled here as it is very hard to see synthetic). I also quickly (too quickly - was in a hurry to beat the traffic going back through Boston) pulled out the manual and found what I thought was the answer (I should have kept reading). So I added two quarts of non-synthetic (dumb move but as you'll see that isn't a big issue) and then one more of synthetic. I re-checked the oil again and could see something this time. So we drove back on the highway and after getting up to about 50 the light came on again. Stopped again and checked the oil ..... looked ok this time. So we crossed out fingers and drove on home. The warning light came back on, but only after you got over 50 mph.

After getting home and reading the manual more thoroughly I found that the warning light can mean sever different things. To find out which one it meant you have to press the menu button on the dash and scroll through until you get to the idiot light that came on. My warning light was indicating that the oil volume was too high, not too low. So I checked the service order and low and behold they had added 14 quarts of oil ..... not the 13.2 called for. So that .8 quarts of too much oil gave me the warning light and caused me all kinds of worry and grief. Don't know why the warning light doesn't come on until you get up to 50 mph. Anyway now I have 3.8 quarts too much oil in the engine. I bought an oil pump extractor and pumped 4 quarts out through the dipstick. Took the RV back up on the highway for about an hour at high speed ...... no warning light - problem solved.

Bottom line and lesson learned for me ..... take the time to read the manual. I also checked about adding the two quarts of non-synthetic oil and that shouldn't be an issue. That's my tail of woe - hope my dumb mistake might help someone down the road!

My memories capacity may not be much but something like you are going through, it should retain that. Thanks you so much for sharing.

Unfortunately the non synthetic oil may be a problem. MBS sprinters require very specific motor oil with a low ash production content to prevent the diesel particulate filter from clogging and allow proper regeneration. Most synthetic oils don't even meet the Mercedes spec. You may want to change it again. Just my opinion.
