battery charging and fresh water

I'm taking my first extensive trip next month and wonder if some of you veteran campers could help...We have a MBS2400W...when hooked up to the city water does the fresh water tank get filled? (I don't want to fill it for weight concerns). And, are the 12 Volt system batteries charged from the engine alternator when driving, or are they only charged when hooked to shore power? Thanks Much

The fresh water tank is not filled when you hook up to City water. All batteries are being charged as you travel down the road... Wish I was charging mine right this very minute! Have a blast!

X2. Also, your Benz sprinter is equipped with a very high output (amp) rated alternator, that does an excellent job of charging the batteries back up while in flight.

The fresh water tank is filled through the separate tank fill port. You will only need to fill that (preferably on arrival at the campground, not departure) if you will not have a water connection at your camp site.

One summer the full hookup campground lost electricity for a while. End result, nobody had water anywhere because the campground pumps wouldn't work. Now we still use the main water hookup AND store fresh water in our tank in case of emergencies.

That's a good safeguard to fill up the FW tank at the site even if it has a water connection.
