Better door strut for MBS ?

Has anyone found a better door opening strut? I hate how the door slams open. My wife and I slowly open the door but visitors and kids are taken by surprise. I would like one that dampens the opening.

Wonder if yours is defective. I have a 2016 Forester 2401WS MBS and the strut is very tight. It opens slower than I would like.

My 2016R opens really quick as well. It has potential to hurt someone if not ready for it.

My 1st one stuck open and was replaced under warranty. Both opened quickly with no dampening. It is more of a problem coming out of the coach where it slams open if you don't hold on carefully.

Mine came with a strut rated at 20 lb. I replaced it with one rated at 10 lb., which is what the strut manufacturer recommend for this application. It does not dampen the opening that much, but it does not throw the door open like the original did.

Do you have a part number for the new strut? Thanks.

I just had mine checked by dealer who called FR and they told them it was supposed to be like that. I think the reverse idea is worth a try when I get it back.

Previous response by old coot back in August 2015... quoted here

"You have to re-position the anchor points themselves. Move them both closer to the hinge of the door. I moved mine 2-1/2" closer to the hinge. Works great."

This will correct the door slaming open.. I have not done this yet. Hope this helps.
