Black tank odors gone
Wanted to share with everyone the best $20 I've spent on an upgrade yet! After a day or two on the road you start to get "that smell" and for the first six months we just dealt with it. But then I started looking into a modification and found this gem, the Camco Cyclone. Installed it and immediately had a HUGE improvement. For us, the smell is COMPLETELY gone. I can't believe it. Installation was literally 15 minutes (most of which was spent scraping up the dicor sealer around the existing vent. If you go this route make sure you order some dicor sealer to finish the job. No cutting or custom modifying, just screw out the other one and screw the new one in...seal it up and you're done. You really can't go wrong with this one!
**I bought a different brand/model first but it couldn't be installed due to the refrigerator's exhaust housing (I think that's what it is) next to the black tank vent. Returned that and got the Camco Cyclone**

Never had this issue, but still a "good to know". Thanks.

I can back up this as well, we regularly had the issue for the first 9000 miles. I put it on for our cross country trip and did not happen once in 5700 miles. This should be factory installed!

I've heard good things about the Cyclone and the 360 Siphon.

I'm glad that works. Thanks for the information.
We use the 360 Siphon. We got it on a first trailer, when we were having issues. It worked so well, we've installed them on each subsequent home away from home. They work very well!
Anything that helps "pull" the odors out of the tanks are a good upgrade.

Also good to know, but with 32 nights in our RV, with stays from 1 to 5 nights before cleanout, we have never had any smell whatsoever. The key is not to run the exhaust fan when flushing, which pulls the odors right out of the tank and into the room. Also running other exhaust fans in the RV could theoretically cause this, but we have not had that happen even though we have two room vent fans often in use. Flushing is just one second open then closed again. We use no chemicals or magic formulas. Just keep the trap door shut and the exhaust fan off when flushing.
The only time we did have any smell in the bathroom was because the toilet bowl itself needed cleaning. It was visually apparent too once it became noticeable. But that is far different from smelling the septic tank itself - a smell which is unforgettable!

We tried the Cyclone and it worked well for awhile but when grit gets into it, you have to clean it or it will not revolve. We are now looking at the 360 Siphon vent but would like to hear from fellow RVers if they are worth it.

I've used the Cyclones on our 2012 Salem and on our SOB Heartland Bunkhouse. Just purchased a Greywolf Toy hauler and this will be one of my first mods next spring.
never had theissue of them not spinning.

The 360 Siphons work very well. On a previous trailer, we had some issues with black tank fumes and this cleared most of it up. The rest, we found out was from a faulty seal in the rear of our toilet (taken care of with the warranty). I immediately added the Siphon to our new Crusader. In our past trailers, we installed them on the Grey and Black Tank vents. The Crusader only has a single vent, so only needed one.

I put a Cyclone my old RV and it solved our smell problem. No need ....so far.. with the Lex 265. I would recommend it to all.

Absolutely worth I installed one on our previous unit, and was very happy to see that it came standard on our Berk.
As was the case with our 5er & now the Berk, we have never had any odors whatsoever.

The only issue we've had with black tank odors is when you forget to turn off the Fantastic Fan before flushing. Do these products eliminate that?

Doubtful. The fantastic fan is creating negative pressure, so that will suck up odors from the black tank.
We are fortunate in that our toilet is in its own room so we never have used the vent fan.
