Chassis battery terminal corrosion

We had a no start situation on the weekend. Seemed like a dead battery, and when I fired up the Genny and patched it through the coach to Chassis circuit (I installed a switch to override the BCC logic circuit) it started right up. Over the remainder of the weekend this was the protocol for starting.

When we arrived home I removed the cover for the chassis battery in the cab, the positive terminal was so corroded, it wouldn't conduct enough current to start the engine. Click image for larger version

So I disassembled the various pieces. The terminal connector is copper, this the blue colour, the buss connector is brass, this the brown colour. Inside the buss box, the corrosion was so thick it was pushing the box apart!

The connecting but we're so corroded they lost their hex shape and I had to use vice grips to get them off!

Any idea why so much corrosion in a sealed compartment, with an AGM battery?

Don’t know what could cause that. I rushed out to check mine and it’s clean. Weird
