Dually Valve Air Leak

FYI -

I had the 6 wheel Dually Valve Sprinter kit (DL1SP13FR - Chrome Duallyvalve Kit W/ Front Stems) installed on my 24R early this year. I began losing air from one of the tires a couple of weeks ago and finally got in to the tire shop to take a look yesterday.

It turns out that the red grommet, between the valve stem and the rim, was pretty shredded and air was leaking through. Since I didn't have a replacement, we put the wheel back on and I got in touch with the Dually Valve folks.

Bill Falkenborg at Dually Valve indicated that he would send me 6 new -black- grommets, which he said are a bit harder and do a better job.

I don't know why the original grommet became shredded or why it waited until now to start leaking. And I don't know the status of the other five wheels. My guess is that the original installation didn't follow the Dually Valve instructions precisely (who checks the torque on these things anyway???) but then why did it take almost a year to fail?

I probably won't be able to revisit the problem until after Christmas, but my current plan is to redo all six wheels and to keep a careful eye on the process to ensure that the torque and thread locking instructions are followed as specified.
