Thank you! I was already concerned about my new RV coming July, was reading in another thread on this forum
BTW the cheapo tires that came with the motor home are rated 1700 pounds loading each in a dual configuration.
I know the Continental tires are trustworthy - I can calm down again!

They are very good tires, not cheap. A close friend has had very good luck with them on his Sprinter Fleet, as well.

Forest River has the GVW rating set up with a 60PSI those Continentals are rated 2470 Lb dual configuration at 80 PSI. The Sumo's are rated 3,000 LB and everyone who owns the BM Sprinter based motor home will go over GVW and the stock jounce bumpers will never touch the axle. The bottom leaf of the rear spring released over 2" from the leaf springs above it and the tires still didn't come off the ground. Although there is only a six bolt configuration on the rear axle it should handle a load that would bottom out the jounce bumpers. The manufacturers would never have put an "E" rated tire on the vehicle if the axle would not handle that class of tire.

Sumo offers larger capacity jounce bumpers as well as additional bolt on helper springs for the Sprinter 3500. They do tell you not to go over the GVW because of manufacturers liability issues, but they would not offer these accessories if they did not thoroughly test to see that loading them to the capacity they rate them at would not harm the Axle itself.

Has anyone heard of a weightmaster in any of the lower 48 pulling a fellow motor home owner over and making them pass over the scales?

Bottom line is let your conscious be your guide.

Mine says I will do my best not to go over the GVW rating any more than necessary. I will not haul a trailer that weighs more than the 4500 pound/450 pound tongue weight rated trailer hitch. but I will be damned if I am going to do without especially since Forest river could have ordered MB Sprinter Chassis with beefed up the springs, and Mercedes Benz could have put an axle designed for 8 bolt wheels. They did put tires on it that are capable of almost 10,000 pounds

After finding out I was over GVWR, I went thru everything that could be left home because it was unused. It really is amazing how we add things thinking we will need them, seldom do and end up carrying all that around. I also, as someone else did, removed the bedroom sliding door (never used), the sofa table with pedestal and the small table and pedestal. Just those 3 items totaled about 75#. The sofa table, though it weighs about 30#, is heavy enough to be troublesome going back and forth beneath the sofa. Two lightweight TV tables work better for us. Now, I need to weigh again after going on a diet.
