Fuel tank reads empty early.

I have found that my tank light comes on when I still have 6 gallons left. I have never put more than 20 in it when the lights on. Anyone else have this. I知 going in for a 20 k service soon and want some backstory info.

This can be pretty standard for a lot of vehicles. The manufacturers would rather have a fuel warning light come on long before the fuel is low. I believe there was a recent NHTSA action against a vehicle manufacturer because the fuel gauge didn't warn the drivers soon enough the fuel tank was empty.

My Titan will show the warning light at what the gauge shows as 1/8 tank. When I fuel up I rarely have to add more than 20 gallons to a tank with an advertised capacity of 28. I can run untll the needle is on the minus side of E and still only have to add 25 gallons.

I've started to just fuel up when I hit a given mileage. I know I get a minumum of 9 mpg with my Truck when towing. When I hit 200 I know I need to fuel up soon. When I hit 225 I stop and transfer gasoline from one of my generator fuel "cans". (Have a neat little battery operated transfer pump that makes this a breeze. I can transfer 6 gallons in the time it takes my dog to pee on all the tires )

Sprinters will have 6 to 7 gallons of fuel left when low fuel light comes on. You will have 60 to 100 miles of range left to find diesel, depending on how lucky you feel.

The long warning mileage is so you can find fuel that wont harm the engine.

Standard Mercedes.....once below a 1/4 tank, the "low fuel" light comes on.

This is normal operation.

Mine is exactly the same. This is normal by design, just as the others have said.
