Hood light and fan fix

The light in the hood, and operation of the exhaust are pitiful. Some others have changed the hood out for one made by fantastic fans, but I hate to waste the funds if I can fix. So I took off the little plastic cover over the light and replaced the bulb (921) with an LED from camping world for $15. But because its round and longer the the original bulb, not as much light got to the stove top as I'd hoped. But the attachment for the bulb is simply a part of the hood that was stamped out and bent upward. So I bent it down flush with the existing structure, sealed with aluminum duct tape and installed the new bulb. Voila! Two issues fixed. Much better light over the stove top, and much better air moving by the fan after sealing a couple of moderately large openings.

That looks like a good fix... I shall look for the holes to patch over as well.

I got tired of the exhaust fan having only 'off or on'...so I installed a speed selector switch so it doesn't sound like a small plane ready for take off while running.
It doesn't take much to open the outside flapper and on a lower speed setting it still directs the steam from a boiling pot outside....Bonus.. it is a lot quieter.

PS... while using the 'exhaust fan' be sure there is a window or a vent open (slightly) to allow air in to create the required draft .

Couple things; in the future buy your LED's from China through ebay, you will save more than 50% with the only downside shipping time. Also, cut a small piece of pipe insulation and wedge it in the outside exhaust cover putting pressure against the plastic flap when in flight.
