Intro and potential new 2401R owner
Lots of great info here in your community, thanks for sharing so much.
I'm looking at 2 different 2401R one is a 2015 and the second is a 2016.
2015 has 30k on the clock
2016 has 12k on the clock
Both are close in price, the 2016 is the front runner due to lower mileage but 100 miles away.
What should I be looking for?
What kind of price should I be paying?

I would think price depends a lot on what options, especially full body paint. Have you looked on RVTrader to see what the asking price is on the various years and option packages?
Here's a link to some:

Does either have a diesel generator, it was a very expensive but great option if you think you may boondocks from time to time.

Both have full paint and pretty much the same options. The 2015 does have in motion satellite

I may be mistaken, but I believe I saw somewhere that the 3.2kw diesel genny will not start the 15k btu A/C (with the heat pump). The 3.6kw propane genny does start the 15kbtu A/C. Agree, great option if it does and the A/C is the 15kbtu and not the 13.5k btu.

No, it's propane on both units.

This is true of the 3.2kw diesel generator and the original Dometic a/c. We replaced our Dometic with an Atwood 15k heat pump and our diesel generator starts and runs the Atwood just fine.
The Atwood is also considerably quieter. The Dometic was so noisy we had to turn it off to eat at the dinette table directly underneath. Not so with the Atwood.

The price difference is probably due to the in-motion satellite. That's an expensive add-on.

Do you have links to listings for the two units? Those might provide more details on the differences.
Also, RV Trader has listings for hundreds of FR MBS motorhomes...here's a link: https://www.rvtrader.com/Forest-Rive...diesel&page=1&
These listings should give you at least a ballpark idea of what dealers and private sellers are asking for their RVs. Your price, of course, depends on how much you can get them to knock off!
Good luck!
Dave

I have a ‘15 2401r. How many hours are on the generators? Do either of them have an suspension upgrades?
It’s a great little MH runs like a champ and gets great gas mileage.

Well...they don't provide a lot of detail in the "Specifications" section!
One difference I noted is that the 2016 has a propane oven while the 2015 has drawers instead. I think the 2015 has a convection microwave instead of the oven...not sure whether the 2016 microwave is convection or not. Personally, I prefer the drawers as there's not a lot of storage space.
As someone pointed out, an in-motion satellite system is a pricey addition...but I could not tell from the photos what system it has.
Two further comments...both of these dealers are asking about what I paid for my unit when I bought it new in 2014. I did not get the full body paint (or the satellite system) but I did get pretty much everything else. Also, looking at the RV trader listings, it appears that dealers are offering new 2018 units for very close to the same money. Bottom line - I think you should be able to do quite a bit better, price-wise, than what either of these dealers is advertising.
