MB Chassis battery maintenance

Does anyone know if the factory chassis battery is maintenance free or needs distilled water occasionally. It's not the easiest thing to get at under the driver's side floor.

I haven't bothered to look under the drivers floor and I don't think I'm the only one. No replies on my string asking if anyone has had a battery fail. I guess they last a long time without problems. Someone with one of the older MBS units should have cooked out a dry cell by now if they were wet cell.

Thanks, Rich. I guess no one here has checked their MB chassis battery.

I too am guilty of not checking that battery. I do know it is a high quality AGM battery, and lasts a long time.

Is AGM the gel cell type of battery?

I've been into the battery a number of times. There is a connection to the coach batteries there, and mine was loose and arcing. Burned a hole in the top of the red plastic cover and created voltage fluctuations that drive the MB computers crazy! 7 pages of trouble codes.

Anyway, it's a sealed unit that doesn't appear to require water top ups.

Sprinter batteries are sealed and, no owner service is needed.

While AGMS are maintenance free...not all maintenance free are AGM. Many are simply valve regulated wet cells with a deeper water reservoir which enables them to be sealed and maintenance free.
I believe though that the Sprinter batts are AGM's
