MBS 2400R and Tow Dolly

I am considering buying an Acme tow dolly for our 2006 VW Jetta TDI (about 3400 lbs + 400 for the dolly). So far we have done ok w/o one, but at times when the stay is more than 2 or 3 days I can see the advantage. I need opinions from others that have done this and how the MBS does. I can not imagine the tongue weight would be much on the hitch, but don't know.

Make sure what ever brand of tow dolly you buy has either electric or hydraulic brakes on it. There are two basic types of tow dollies. one has a turntable with fixed wheels, the other has steerable wheels with a fixed platform. There are pros and cons to both. so take the time to research each before making a decision on which type to get.

hope this helps

IF you plan on much travel it is better to get a car that can be towed 4 wheels down.

Far faster to hook up and a few hundred pounds less for your MB to drag.

Nothing to store at your camp site.

5 min hookup rather than 20 min.

Either way you will need a breaking system for the towd.

Our 2400R MBS towed a Prius cross country with an Acme tow dolly -- hydraulic brake model. No additional brake system required. Easy trip. Little difference in the fuel consumption. Averaged 14 mpg.

The ACME Tow Dolly band the MBVS are an excellent combination. That dolly has its own brakes; and we towed up and down the east coast for two years, and the only way to tell we were towing a dolly and a Prius was to look in the rear-view. Never had an issue pulling or turning or anything else, and the ACME is a lot easier to load, unload and manage at the campsite that most other brands I have seen.

I too have the 2400R MBS and dolly and I tow a Honda Civic everywhere. It doesn't affect my mileage much nor the power. It goes over the mountains with ease. I have a Tow Master dolly with surge brakes. I can load it in 10 minutes or less. We have been very pleased with it. Having a vehicle with you after you set up in the campground is worth everything!

Which hitch did you purchase? What height is your hitch? Did you need to get the adjustable hitch? We have a 2400R MBS and just received the Acme Tow Dolly... thanks for the info!

Ok, thanks. We have the acme tow dolly. We're thinking we have to get the adjustable hitch which is big bucks, unfortunately. We cant seem to find the hitch height and our unit is not somewhere level where we can get an accurate measurement. I suppose we could move the rv to more level ground, but we just figured we'd check the forums first. Thanks for your help!
