What is a practical way on MBS engine? Do you start it and idle it for awhile or run around the block? How often or just park it through winter? I got answer about generator now engine.

Park it, hook up a float charger with assumption you put it away fully charged ( house and chassis) and leave it be. If you feel the urge to start it up, you need to let it run till operating temperature is achieved and then a bit longer to get all components, engine, exhaust system etc. dryed out. A by-product of combustion is water, so you should park it, plug it in and check now and then for mice.
This is what i learned over at the Sprinter-Forum.
Don't idle long
No short trips
No Bio-fuel if you can help it
Use engine oil specified for vehicle
Drive it like you stole it, diesels like to run hot
Most of all problems are in the emission system, you ever hear of swirl valves? yes crazy components like that exist in your Sprinter, this is just one of the items to get gummed up if you load the engine up with soot.
I put 30K, prior owner put 20K, now has 50K on the Sprinter so far with no issues cause I follow the above recommendations.

This is what I did for 6 or 7 winters. No issues resulted.
