Atwood tank
I used a Atwood tank for 12 years with no problem of using a brass reducer to a 3/8" pet cock drain. I used a good coating of Teflon tape on the brass threads. Once every two years I would remove the brass reducer with the pet cock to flush the tank very good of any sediment.

I have an Atwood water heater. Replaced the plastic plug with an anode I bought on Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Camco-11553-M...r+heater+anode
Fits fine, was able to get it in without much problem. You need to get one specific for the Atwood. Shorter than the others.

Why would you put an Anode Rod in a water heater tank that doesn't require the rod ?

Well, if you wanted your water to smell like sulphur, you could put a magnesium rod inside of your aluminum water heater tank. That’s one reason.

X2. If it did insulate the two metals, the anode wouldn't work. And I can tell you that my anode works with Teflon tape.

Sacrificial anodes prevent corrosion between dissimilar metals. Tank may be aluminum, but are all the fittings? Would rather buy a 17 dollar anode than a 600 water heater. Funny how the anode shows corrosion after a years worth of use. Why is it reacting if there's no electrolysis going on? Just asking.
Anyone heard of planned obsolescence.

If the anode corrodes and breaks off in the tank is it useless? and impossible to get out of the tank?

I've never seen or heard of that happening. They have a long piece of metal in the middle of them that would prevent that.

It really should be attached to be of real use, although I imagine some use may be gotten from where it's touching the tank. It would be difficult to remove, but if you have some flexible steel finger tools and maybe a endoscope it would help. But it's not hurting anything and will probably eventually disappear through galvanic action.... JMHO

That makes sense. Ours is only corroding near the plug and it would seem that it would eventually break off.

I don't think so. The center rod is made of different metal - does not corrode as the sacrificial part does. See post # 31 .

I believe the center rod is made from mild steel, in that case a magnet should retrieve it.
