Oil Change...when?

I know the book says to change the oil by 20,000 miles and I heard (here?) there is also a time limit of 1 year. Someone said 2 years. I find it odd that none of this is in the book. Is it because of the built in computer clock that is supposed to let you know if you time out before 20k miles?

Also, where do find out about the procedure for resetting the counter?

You should have two books, owners manual and maintenance manual...or at least I did for my 2008.

I changed mine at about 3500 miles. Chassis was built a year ago and coach was delivered to Phoenix in December. Don't know how many times it was started and stopped before it was warmed up. This is what my filter looked like. Napa had ESP oil on sale so I changed it and will do it again in a year.

Your filter comparison is not indicative of oil status. Typically diesels dirty up the appearance of the engine oil soon after use begins. That does not mean it is not functioning to design spec, it is just an appearance its dirty, but in reality its fine.

Regardless, I know where I stand with it now. If it didn't have messed up pleats, I might think it was fine also

The MBS computer will also tell you when she is ready for a change.

I had my first oil change shortly before 10,000. A Mercedes dealership had told me every 10,000 miles. So, recently I went to a different Mercedes dealer at 18,750 miles ( because I was in the area) and was going to have the 20,000 mile service done. They told me to come back at 25,000 miles for my next service and that every 15,000 miles for the oil service is the new recommendation. I'm not mechanically inclined, so I asked them if they could at least do a multi point inspection for me. They said NO, don't waste your money. I think I might have it serviced elsewhere next time. I sure hope nothing breaks down on me in the middle of nowhere.
