Overheating in traffic jam

We are on our first long trip with our 2018 2400MBS. It overheated in a traffic jam. We immediately turned off A/C and traffic started moving and it cooled down. Has anyone had this issue with the MBS.

I can't speak specifically about your rig, but for many engines, the fan doesn't engage until you're at RPMs above idle. I had an issue like this in my F-150 and I would need to pop it into neutral and rev the engine from ~600 RPMs in idle to ~1,000 RPMs. This would engage the fan and cool everything down very quickly.

Some people even go as far as to install electric fans with a thermostat ... so it kicks on at a certain temperature, regardless of engine RPM.

My old Dodge has some sort of a temp controlled fan. It doesn’t cause it to run hot, but when the engine is cold and the ambient is hot the a/c is crap at an idle. I added an electric for that reason.

Any chance your unit already has an electric fan? Some have 2. One for a/c only and one for the engine cooling. I have seen viscous and electric too.

Ours just sometimes decides it doesn’t want to work, I don’t recall it being related to a traffic situation or even extremely hot outside. Mercedes Benz was not able to replicate the problem (not that they were very interested). But get them to look at it, the first time it was very low on coolant (which they blamed on Forest River) but after that they say they can’t find anything wrong. It’s fairly rare, we turn it off and 10 -20 min or so, turn it back on and it works. I hope you have better luck.

I drove about 1k miles missing the belt that turns the fan in my 2016 MBS Prism. Most of that was Interstate driving so no issue. Slowing to a crawl, going up a long grade or idling would cause the over heat issue. I had the belt replaced under warranty. It is not a trivial job to replace. I would check to make sure the fan is turning and the belt is in place. Make sure the coolant tank is full.

Have put over 17K miles on our RV since we purchased
We have never had an issue with overheating and that was after a 3 hour jam in NY.... Ug
Suggest if it occurs again take a snapshot of the dash with the light and show it to Sprinter service at MB.

That new it should have an computer controlled electric fan clutch or an electric fan. Low coolant is possible but should have turned on a light on the dash.
