Propane Extend a Stay - MBS
Those of you with extend a stay propane tanks with a MBS, how are you carring the additional propane tank when you're on the road?

Pod2vibe, did you add ventilation to that bin? Folks told me it's not saft to transport the cylinder inside of an enclosed bin (as that WAS how I was planning to carry the tank).

Driver's side far rear bin (the one just forward of the utility compartment) is not enclosed on our 2012 Solera "S". Top is open to the outside.

Good to know, JLeising. I have a 2014 Solera and all compartments are enclosed. I'd really like to have a way to carry an additional 20# tank, but I don't see a safe way to do it on my rig. 😞

I have a 2016 R and I installed a dual valve with extended stay capability and BBQ valve. I store the extended stay tank in 6x12 that I tow. Plans to run a 15' BBQ line under unit and frame members to storage area on pax side so BBQ can be used under awning. Valve was 50.00 so not bad.

CharSolera. Have you given any thoughts to having louvered vents cut in the storage bin we had that done in another Mh so we could carry oxygen tanks that my in law had to have.

Petersb, that back storage area is very large on my 24S. I sure wish the propane capacity on the Solera was higher. I think its interesting to hear the Coachman Prism tank is larger than the Forester, Sunseeker or Solera. Adding ventilation is an option.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the R model has a huge rear bin "area" that is a pass through and includes 4 bin doors. It is not very sealed. I also keep my bin drain holes open when I have propane inside. When I get to my destination, the tank comes out, as well.

Propane tank storage
Not sure why all the hoopla over carrying propane bottles. I've been carting a 20# bottle for an Extend a Stay in a closed compartment on my Sunseeker for 8 years. Actually I consider travelling down the road with propane in use (refrigerator, furnace etc), like some folks do,to be a greater hazard to life and limb.

It is a weight issue. I recall that the Prism has a lower, 3500# towing capacity.

Good to know, Pod2Vibe. I don't tow, so I'd really like to have that extra capacity.

Another option is a storage shelf attached to the hitch. For the R model, be sure not to block the slider or else tape off the slide switch until you remove the rack when parked.
I'm sure everyone has an opinion, but I wouldn't put one in an enclosed space, especially part of the MH. I won't even put my grill tank in the garage in the winter. Propane tanks stay outdoors, period.

MNtraveler, I have a bicycle carrier on the hitch 😢. Yes, I'd only consider having the tank in a ventilated compartment or outside.

I keep a couple of the small ones for my grill in an exterior compartment. Prob not the best idea but I don't have a ventilated compartment in my 2401R.
