That's great if you're winterizing, but if you're changing the filter mid season many may not want or be able to blow the lines out. Placing a bag over the housing will catch most of the water.
Of course I removed the whole thing and bypassed mine. No spilled water at all that way.

Seems like a lot of effort. I just didn't install the filter on delivery and I use an external filter on the hose. Works just fine and no issues with winterization.

Stainless dog water dish fits under the filter on our 2012 Solera perfectly. I slip the filter wrench on the filter before positioning the dog dish. Loosen the filter, unscrew, and remove from compartment together with the dish. No issue.

I thought I'd add my modification to this post incase it can help anyone. I chose to keep the filter in its designed place but modified the opening to make the filter easier to change. Here is the link in this forum. -- http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ers-56946.html

Remove poor design water filter in MBS

No criticism for anyone who has made very clever workarounds, but I have not had any trouble at all removing the filter canister even when full. It only has to be moved 3' to the sink, or 1' to a bucket to dump it into.

Also in the idea of removing the filter and using only an external filter - that only filters the incoming water. If using the water tank, it does NOT filter the water coming out of the tank. That could include bacteria or any other impurities in the tank. Even if not being drunk (the water, not the owner...), it's still disturbing to think of people and their families showering or washing hands in unfiltered water.

Sanitize your fiberglass water system

.. Let's hope everyone sanitizes Fiberglass Water System with new components or after a period of storage.
