I was going to call BS on the DEF diagnosis except...

The on board computer will limit you to a certain number of starts once you are in need of DEF. After that it will not start. It is possible that the dash warnings were not displayed (or observed).

The one thing that's confusing in the sequence is why the jump start helped if the erroneous DEF signal was a lockout. Maybe the battery was low at that point and that was the last or near last available start. Let's hope for the best here!

The rig was started on a Tuesday by the RV folks. It had been sitting for 6 weeks but started without hesitation (according to the service writer, Rob, whom I respect a great deal. They have been exemplary in their provision of care). Then Wednesday it wouldn't start but did with a boost. I don't get the def thing either as we had no messages and I've seen them before when we first got the rig and had a scr sensor problem in Tampa. They replaced the nox sensors and no issues with the countdown sequence since. And the battery at no point has been deficient. I can't figure why the boost did anything to change the status of the ecm (motor control module).

So, you were getting a count down. They replaced the nox sensors why? I previously didn't think it could be your starter, but if your chassis bat tests good, there is something wrong if a jump gets you started. Not saying its the starter/solenoid. Just is frustrating when the problem is intermittent.

Sometimes the extra kick of a booster battery can be enough to make a reluctant starter solenoid agree to do its job. And maybe keep doing its job? Who knows, I just hope the fix works for the long haul.

Don't forget about the factory battery isolator by the gas pedal. Just discovered it myself on a 2008 FourWinds 24sa

The problem hasnt recurred over the 10,000 km we put on last month. No issues at all. Although the weather could hve been a little warmer. There were some days when we were in florida when the temp was only 5-10 degrees warmer there than in ottawa, 2,200 km north! One other nice thing was that our dealer followed up and wanted to make sure all was well, nd that what they had done fixed the problem. I felt well cared for by Star Motors here in ottawa.
