What are the pet owners doing to secure screen door to keep pets safe. The stock latch is a joke

Would this work? It can be installed inside and accessed from the outside.

The screening on the door is weak and a dog can scratch it apart. I just replaced mine with a pet proof screening that I got from Lowes. We had it on our last door and never a had a hole scratched in it.

No, I installed a screen grill. It's the latch that's the real point. The hook & eye wiil work. Keep the ideas coming

For the latch I used this one. Cheap and pretty secure. Lowes but I'm sure all hardware stores have them.

This does a good job preventing accidental openings when my "little girl" decides to curl up at my feet with her dainty butt pushing on the door

I knew you needed something for the latch. I thought for others, the pet screening is a simple fix in place of a grill to keep the pets from going thru door.

Actually, a pet screen is what I installed. OK will shop for that latch. I think it'll suffice.

At home, we installed a plastic laminate or polycarbonate sheet across the lower portion of a screen door to prevent pets from going through it. (A neighbor dog came and ripped it and that was the last straw.)

That won't hold the door at the latch but will help prevent a screen-through situation.

Just got back from a trip through Canada where in one park a raccoon came up to our screen door twice. On the second encounter it tried to get in and ripped a hole in the screen (before screaming started...)! May have to do the same there.

As far as the latch, I took a look at ours. I would probably sink a good quality eye hook in the adjacent wall, hook a small bungee cord into it, wrap it once or twice around the door handle, and hook it back to the eye hook. If that allows too much "give" so the pet can slip out, use a cord or chain with less or no flex to it.

How about this slide lock and it could accessed from the outside by reaching thru the small sliding screen.
