Small portable heater

Is it a good idea to run a small portable heater inside MH in winter to keep moisture down? Right now I have a few moisture absorbents and not sure it's good enough?

Thanks

If you're going to run anything, run a dehumidifier.

That's a good idea because I was kind of worry about heat in there when no one around.

You can't run a compressor based dehumidifier below something like 40 degrees F, the water will freeze on the coils and the whole things degrades rapidly. Some do have defrost cycles and you will find that it is defrosting 90 percent of the time. If it worked, how would the "water" drain out of the tank when it is below freezing?

They do have desiccant based units that do not use compressors, but I am sure they don't continue to work below freezing...where would the water go?

It is a good idea if you want to keep your rig ready to hit the road (or hate winterizing).

We did this in our 5th wheel for 3 winters, Worked great! Here is the heater we used:

https://www.amazon.com/DeLonghi-EW77...l+space+heater

We put it in the central area, turned on the "Freeze warning" (the heater keeps the ambient temp at 40°) - no issues and we had a couple inches of snow and temps in the teens & 20's for 10-14 days in a row.

X2 but instead of a electric dehumidifier, suggest you use this:

https://www.amazon.com/Improved-Eva-...rds=evadry+500

Best dehumidifier ever! And no mess and goo like DampRid. Renewable, just plug in to a extension cord and set in a open area for @ 4 hours and it is ready to go again. We currently have 4 of them in our Coach.

I use a small standard dehumidifier when temps are above 40. I got one that has the ability to have a drain hose attached. I ran a 1/2" clear drain hose through the pedestal and then out the enclosed bottom of the TT. Works wonderful and is maintenance free. I tried the solid state small ones and although it is a great idea on a good day ( hot humid summer day) it might take out 1/3 cup of water which is not sufficient.

BamaBob, I don't doubt you like the EvaDry units. Have you ever measured the humidity before and after use? How long does it take to reduce the humidity, and by how much?I've seen quite a few reviews of people who love their dehumidifiers, but don't really know if or how well they actually work. I'd like some test results. One person I asked (who loved another dehumidifier) only saw a 5% change in the humidity levels while using it. A 5% change can be caused by the interior heating up, etc. so the dehumidifier didn't really work. Yeah, it filled up the small reservoir over the course of a day, but it really didn't seem to impact the environment.

Sorry for the side conversation.
