I am looking at a 2017 Sunseeker Mercedes 2400S. Was wondering if it will tow my jeep unlimited sahara that weighs a little over 4200#? Anybody ....

It's rated for 4200.
I would advise not. 2-door. Maybe.

My wife's cousin tows a 4 door jeep with an MBS and has had no issues. He keeps his speed under 60 when towing and has a good supplemental brake system.

Regardless....
She asked the question. The correct answer as stated by the manufacturer would be .... NO.

OK then, is Ford chassis better than Mercedes? I've been told you get better mileage with MBS. I know the Winnebago 24j will tow up to 5000 and it is MBS. But it is also about $20,000 more. Any suggestions on what to get? I am a travel nurse and need dependable RV. Thanks for all the info!!

Hello,
There are many factors in towing capability. Much like a PickUp can tow something is based upon payload. With the Motorhome you have payload with all the items that make up the RV itself.
Also a MB is not necessarily a MB. Depends how the manufacturer orders the chassis, tire size, springs etc A Ford might have more payload capability. A good dealer can tell you the difference and look at units on the lot as delivered what the yellow sticker says.

I would take the mbs a million times over the Ford or Chevy.
My opinion.

Thanks KK. That's what I have been told too. So I guess to pull my Jeep, I either go bigger with FR or pay more for Winnebago.

Again, see the link I posted above. Believe all MBS class c Motorhomes have the same ratings, regardless of manufacturer.

OK , JL, I read the previous post which did help, thank you. Another question then is if you subtract the GVWR from the GCWR to get towing capacity but the hitch says 4000 on FR and 5000 on View then you can technically tow more with the view. Correct?

Actually, I think you subtract the actual vehicle loaded weight from the GCWR to get your specific towing capacity. If your actual loaded weight is below the GVWR, you can tow more (so long as you stay below the GCWR, as I understand it).
Other posts have said that the hitch on the Forest River MBS Motorhomes is actually a 5000 pound rated hitch, labeled as a lower number (on my 2012, it is labeled for 3500 lbs). Not sure what the current situation wrt hitch actual rating is.

OK. I have read all the threads on weight limits. I may be totally confused now. All I want to tow is a Jeep that weighs 4269-4294#. Sorry KK, can't get rid of my Jeep, love it. It's easier for my two boxer dogs to ride. I want MBS!!! With that said...suggestions on what RV is available.

Believe you will want the lowest UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) and highest CCC (cargo carrying capacity). Assuming my interpretation of tow capacity is correct, you need to stay a few hundred pounds below the GVWR to allow your toad weight and stay within the GCWR. Believe that will lead you to single slide, no full wall slide, don't carry water, empty holding tanks before attaching toad, etc. You likely will find it difficult to stay light enough - the Sprinter Clas C Motorhomes don't have much cargo capacity to start with. While I believe the Sprinter drives much more comfortably (as an owner, I may be biased), believe the Fords can carry and tow more.

Don't get rid of it!
Just get rid of two extra doors.
Mine.

We tow a 2 door jeep rubicon which weighs 4000lb, removed back seat for our 2 labs , but added rock sliders. Towed over grades , other than slows a bit, no issues. Added a good braking system with a supplemental brake booster for safety. Like you, would not give up our jeep. Ours is a soft top.

towing
Do not bank on coming in under the GVWR. You can have up to 1000 pounds or more of "stuff" which number includes all passengers, pets, pet kennel and supplies, power cords, hoses, any water in the tank, all gear, food, clothing, boots, tools, vacuum, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, cutlery, flatware, pots and pans, grill, etc. etc. You will need to include in that the tongue weight of the hitch which if you tow flat down will be low but still enough to matter.
You are correct that you must also meet the hitch towing capacity. Also the hitch insert and the ball capacity must both be met.

Yes but the OP's weighs >4200 which does not even include the towing equipment. That could be another 50-100#.
