Your thoughts appreciated

We picked up our 2016 sunseeker 24s last sept we have about 4200 miles on it should I change oil now or wait until I get closer to the one year date.

Your call. I've always been a fan of changing break in oil early on and then reverting to the 5K interval or 1/yr on the TV. Everybody's got a different opinion. Oil change cheap insurance. What does your dealer and engine mfr recommend? Is it using any oil being as how it has so few mi? That wouldn't be unheard of until the rings seat

As Jeff said it's up to you, but if it were me I'd take a sample and have it analyzed either before or at the time of the change. That'll give you a baseline for future changes.

I would be especially vigilant if you live in the Midwest where many states are mandating biofuel blends up to 20%. We went South from Chicago to Texas, over to Louisiana and back, and none of the pumps at any of our fueling stops was marked with the "5 to 20%" content sticker, which surprised me. I am hoping all the fuel I purchased was 5% or less, but wonder if they are required to let us know. At any rate, with the biofuel possibility, shorter intervals than the 20000 MB spec are recommended.

Since this is the MBS sub-forum and the OP has an MBS rig and does not live in the MidWest with its Biofuel issues, he is more than fine to wait. That is why MB puts in quality synthetic oil to start with.

Have fun and put some more miles on, Peter!

Change it according to MB specs. Doing it earlier is just a waste of money.

Agreed. The oil used is super premium quality and quite expensive. An MB shop oil change is $300. Follow the manual.

B5 or less is considered the same as straight diesel and is not labeled. Anything over B5 (6% biodiesel blend and up) must be labeled and you should see a blue label. It's a uniform federal requirement. Search "biodiesel" in this forum for more details.

I had asked this question to several different MBZ service techs for my 24S. I was told 10,000 mi. for the first service. Just be very careful who you chose to change the oil /filter and that they know Sprinter engines. I would now use ONLY a MBZ dealership. I learned the hard way after letting a general RV dealership who was taking care of warranty issues, go ahead and do my first service. They put an aftermarket filter in wrong, it blew all my oil and ruined my engine. Their error cost me my vacation (a new engine had to be shipped from Germany), and cost them over $20,000.
