Concerns on Rust new trailer

We are looking to buy a new 2017 39r12 touring edition and was at the dealership and noticed rust at the back drop door and all around the decking for the back patio. Very concerned if i am going to have problems, what do you think? (they told me that this could be sandblasted and painted, but this is brand new. Telling me surface rust.) Is anyone have this camper and having any problems?

I would request a factory tour to find out how this unit is constructed. The Vengeance line is produced in a number of FR facilities mostly in Topeka IN. Rust never gets better. A properly E-Coated finish will last for years. These units cost a lot of $$$. Last month I saw a high end 4yr old FR toy hauler sell for 55k with a faded cap. the rest of it was really nice. (No Rust)

We bought/ordered the same one and there's no major rust on ours, just couple minor spots where the paint was scratched. I just touched it up with some black paint. I guess it depend how bad the rust is.

From passed experience, bad thing about getting a RV in winter is that if they pulled the RV thru the snow and salt during winter to get to dealership the RV underside paint will never be right from the road salt, it just seems to eat away at the paint. We seen a couple new RVs like this that were 10 months old but still brand new and the underside looked 10 yrs old.

Rustoleum Rust Reformer, at auto parts store. Easy to use, follow instructions, then paint over with a black semi gloss.

[QUOTE=mailman6;1435651]Bought new Silverback in 2011.

Had to scrape and repaint all the frame , underside, axles, springs and wheels. Paint was peeling of in chunks. Scrape really, really prime Rustoleum, and Rustoleum paint. Good 2 coats of each. Still looks brand new 3 years later. Like a lot of things, they just do a poor cheap job.

Cheap steel, cheaper paint, plus minimum rage worker = rust.

No telling how long it was run thru salted roads or how long it has sat on the lot.

Order a new on now and most of the roads will be salt free.

My last unit was delivered during the month of March and at some point during the trip from the manufacture to the dealer the driver passed through road salt that was not removed by the dealer. Long story short when I returned to the dealer for warranty repair on slides with the underside a pile of rust they accused me of having it in flood waters (I'm on a seasonal site on the side of a mountain with no water for miles) and did not want to stand by the warranty. Needless to say the unit is gone and so is the dealer! STAY AWAY IMO

I noticed later some 'surface rust'. I have the rust reformer that I am going to use. If you have not bought it yet get it repainted as part of the deal or get a different unit.

I have used Por 15 for lightly rusted metal before and have had good results. It is kinda pricey but very durable. Good luck with whatever you decide.
