Generators in Vengeance

Does anyone here have an Onan generator in their Vengeance? My Rogue did not come with one. The rig came with it being generator ready, which mean that the remote start kit has been installed and the fuel lines have been run from the on board fuel tank. I have a 50A service on my Vengeance. I would need the 5500 Onan EVAP which is for the 50Amp service (2 ACs) . I now have to decide on getting one installed (approx. 8K was quoted by the dealer). That price is with the 10% discount on the generator and labor. My other choice is to go with a couple of Honda inverters (either the eu2000i or eu3000I) to run in parallel which would give me enough to run one of the two ACs on my rig. My question is for anyone that has the Onan in their rig is: how quiet is it? My concern with the Honda generators is that they could be stolen is I was boon docking at a Walmart for an overnighter. I appreciate any input on this. Thanks

I have the 5500 Onan in my trailer. It is very quiet. It is under the bedroom and when we boondock you can barely hear running.

Also, $8K seems high being your trailer is already prep for a gen set. All the wiring is already there. Check out the link below:

Which fifth wheel do you have? My bedroom is above the generator compartment also. To say the least the price is high. I’ve been looking at the generator sets at the link you posted. The dealership quote of the generator was $5800. Still quite a bit of coin for labor. I don’t get it. Thanks boatman

I also have the 5500 Onan underneath our bedroom. Its nice to have. It was already installed when we purchased and I always opt to have one "just in case".

That is a obsurd price. A google search shows it for around 4$k for the gen. 4K more for install is highway robbery. Shop around.

we have an onan 5500 lp generator. it is up front, our bedroom is in the rear. yes you can hear if you try but if you are running an air conditioner or two they are so noisy they completely mask the generator. your quoted price seems high, we had ours installed by the dealer for just over $5K. if you have the generator prep all the wiring and fuel line is done as is the generator enclosure. just about all they have to do is get it into the enclosure and hook it up. expect to pay a bit for the exhaust flanges and tubes. but that we all included in the price we paid.

Definitely going to shop around. I'm not going to pay that kind of money. Thanks. I really like to hear from some RVers which have inverter generators. Anybody????

I have a 398V and the generator is under the bedroom and is very quiet. Definitely get one just in case you lose service in a campground so you can stay cool. Mine was a $4800 upgrade but the $8500 seems like a lot. Maybe you can do the install yourself if the switch and remote is already installed.

The head of the dealership and I had a sit down about the 8K quote one the installation of the Onan generator in my "generator ready" Vengeance. Apparently no one wanted to take credit for that quote and was willing to discuss a price, that was reasonable. The head of the service department was called in to help with the number$. The number we came up with was 6.5K. That was with a transfer switch having to be installed, which they thought would have to be purchased and installed. Come to find out there was no need for a transfer switch since it has one installed already. The head of service said that would knock about 5-600 off the price. Interestingly enough when I brought up the fact that the transfer switch was already in the unit they already knew that after sending out a guy to check my unit (which has been sitting at the dealership). wondering if they were ever going to tell me about it. Hmmmm. So generator has arrived and should be ready by Friday. Thanks all for your input.
