Bless you for taking care of your own. I would do the same. Maybe you can find a spot somewhere in the house for some bunk beds to use during the coldest nights. Good luck and thank you for your service.

3) Your camper is on your property at your house

If I got that right:

1) You just need to worry about heating the trailer enough to keep warm.
2) You don't absolutely need to have water, since you have access to the house.
3) Since you don't need water, you can winterize your lines, so the only real concern is keeping the trailer warm enough to sleep.

That sound about right?
This thread has gone on for quite some time. There’s definitely hardship and suggestions in this case. I think Kafka has nailed it for summarizing the situation.

We need to hear from PapaMooseP to complete the story. I don’t think there’s anymore we can offer here.

Waiting and hoping and praying 🙏

Winter camping

I camped year round in a camper and the previous threads are correct about hay bales, skirting etc...that would be the first thing to do. I didn’t use the water, I used bottled water and used dish buckets in the sinks so I didn’t use any grey tanks. I used the toilet and poured windshield washer fluid after every use. I also placed a three wall removable hut against the trailer door so when you open the door, all your heat doesn’t escape. It was also used for coats, boots helmets etc.. cover your roof vents with insulated boxes. Windows with the 3m stretch film is a must. A large propane tank is a must. Electric blankets help at night to save on propane. Good luck and have fun!!!

Ok just to update. We are doing good so far. We have the furnace set at 55 and are using an electric blanket.

Do you have water in the unit or winterized and just "living" in there?

Based on the summary in post #57, it's basically being used as an extra bedroom.

Update number 2. We are still doing good. Thanks mother nature for not dropping the bottom out of the temps. We are keeping an eye on the moisture. Which the dehumidifier is doing at good job at controlling. We are getting 2-4 days out of a 20 ib cylinder so far. The furnace is working well. And no mice as of yet.

Yea, glad to hear all is good. I’ve kept this thread saved as I was hoping it was working well. Nice that MN has been above avg this winter.

Hi folks. Well mother nature sucks now. Welcome to Minnesota. We have found out below 0 is not comfortable. Especially for this long. But we are hanging in. Hopefully this weather warms soon. We are planning a vacation next month for a week. We are going south.YAY.

Every one degree drop in outside temperature requires 3% more energy to maintain the same indoor temperature, so at 0 you literally need twice as many BTUs as you do at 32, let alone going below 0.

Glad you are going to get a break. Hang in there, even in Minnesota and here near the Canadian border in upstate NY the worst should be over in another month.

Yay I think we are thru the worst of it.Still happy with the camper.I am glad we had it available to help us thru this time. I would like to thank everyone for their input and suggestions. It has made this a barable situation. We have a layer of ice on the roof about 1/2in thick. Any suggestions on removing it? Thank you in advance for any suggestions. All of you here have been wonderful. I can't wait to get camping! I guess that's a good thing, that I still want to go camping.
