Thinking about snowbirding in Texas

Yes, Gulf Waters is probably the nicest rv resort we've found. Generally try to spend 2-3 weeks there in the fall. We like being a little warmer during the winter. 😊

We started out looking at Texas to snowbird but the weather looked chilly. The exploring trip took us to Casa Grande, Az. where we found our perfect place. It's a smaller city with lots to offer and is halfway between Phoenix & Tucson. The weather is 40-70 in the winter and up the 90s fall & spring. Our resort cost $300 to $650 a month (depend on what month & how months you stay) that includes 60+ activities a week. We stayed in our 5th wheel for 2 months and decided to buy a park model the following year there. Lots of long term RVing there. Lots to do and enjoying it.

We live in North Texas near the DFW Metroplex and we do get winter here (occasional snow flurries, a rare ice storm and a blue norther every time our Canadian friends leave the freezer door open too long ) but otherwise it is nice. Farther south, the weather is warmer but it can freeze on occasion. Lots to do here. Y'all come down!

Don't know how it is going to be but we are also heading to Mission Tx to arrive on 12/1 and stay for 4 months, needed a break from Fl. snowbirding . We booked a premium lot at Canyon Lake RV Resort for quite abit less than we paid for a squeeze in lot in Fl. Did alot of web checking of the area and it seems to be a pretty safe place compared to Fl. I HOPE ALL GOES WELL!!

We did our first winter in Texas (2016) but got started kind of late & everything around the gulf was booked up. We ended up in Victoria, TX. They said it is better to be away from the gulf due to the salt....It was pretty cold & windy but from that spot we took trips to North & South Padre, Houston, Corpus C., Rockport & Port Arnasas - went to San Antonio - not to far to get to any of them.

From there we went over to New Mexico in Silver City - very cool & lots to see & do. Stopped in Amarillo TX on the way back - another fun place. We are going back this year.

This year we were in Florida (2017) & had much better weather.

This year we will try out Arizona. We don't leave until mid January.

Hey , we spent a few winters in Aranssa Pass pretty nice a Corpse Christi is about 20 miles away, and a ferry to take you to the beach, and a great restaurant in Rockport!

Dont for get your pass ports take a day trip to Mexico!
And I recently staying at Benson Palm or Benson Grove about 600+elec.
The weather is worth the extra!

Gets cold in Bandera, Frost and snow cold. Check out the Rio Grande Valley. About 500 parks to choose from and significantly warmer.

Looks like we will try out the Rio Grand Valley. I have been looking at some of the web sites from the suggested RV parks. At the moment the Alamo Rec Veh Park is on the top of the list. Plenty of on site activities and a pretty reasonable price. I plan to call there today and see if they have a spot for us. The nice thing about the Motor Home, if we don't like where we are we can try someplace different on the next trip.

The internet is a wonderful thing, I have no idea how we would have planned a trip like this without the information and help available on forums like this.

I started snowbirding last year. Picked Quartzsite, AZ and I love it! Already reserved for this Oct-Mar and can't wait.

Prices are better for long term stays, close to Parker, Lake Havasu, Yuma AZ, only 25 miles to Blythe CA for shopping. Mineral/Gem shows, RV shows, Off roading, desert Hiking.

Have been back in Colorado and places north this summer, but getting antsy to be heading back end of Sept. Staying with my sister one week of october and one week at Grand Canyon, then heading to my winter HOME.

If you want better weather on Texas it must be the Lower Rio Grand Valley or from just north of Corpus Christi down the coast to South Padre Island. Having lived in SE Texas for about 45 years, I go to FL. It will be cheaper in south Texas and there is a good deal to do. Lots of snowbirds in the Valley. Good Luck

Although I see a lot of snow birds here in North Texas (dallas area) the weather will be much warmer in the lower Rio grand area.

I can't imagine snowbirding in anywhere near Dallas! It must be that they are near family? Some snowbird in the Houston area to be near family.
