Walmart Camping Record!
After reading about "Overnighting at Walmart" and replying about our local "Walmart Record Holder" that has been "Camped" in the Front Main Parking Lot of Walmart in Lebanon,Ohio for "OVER 2 YEARS" I asked the Front End Customer Service Manager about the RV,she said she would find out! Two weeks later I returned and ask the Same Lady if she found out and the reply was NO! So I ask for the Real Manager, who was a lady also,I started off by asking about this stores "Overnight Policy for RVs" she Immediately replied "NO Overnight Parking,Only Stop an Go", while shopping! I then ask her if she was aware of the "Over 2 Year RV parked in her Main Front Lot" to say the least she was "Taken Back"! She then ask Me what brought My attention to the RV,which I replied "My Eyes"! She said she would look into this,I will also keep "Looking"! Youroo!!

The take-away from this is that there is NO OVERNIGHT RV PARKING at the Lebanon, OH WALMART.

Is the situation now better or worse for future overnight campers at the Walmart?

I'm not sure I see the point, here. If Walmart management does not seem to know or care, how is this a problem. I love having the opportunity to boondock at a Walmart while getting from point A to point B. We all know (or should know) that it's just a place to take an overnight break. And most of us know and follow the unwritten rules. But rubbing managements nose in something that they don't seem to care about could force Walmart to create a "Corporate Policy." I'm sure that won't go well.

Unfortunately, the outlook is bleak. What once was a novelty has now become an abuse of privilege. People have left messes and aside from just using it as a stop-over, folks have begun to set up camp in the parking lots. Many municipalities have invoked ordinances that now prohibit overnight parking. Our biggest Walmarts, Anchorage and Fairbanks are open 24/7. It is not uncommon to see tons of RV's in the parking lots during the tourist season, but generally they are there for provisioning and re-supply. In AK there are just too many other nicer places to camp as opposed to remaining on the blacktop. Same thing in YT, BC or the PNW.

And the tattling related in this thread is also part of the problem.
Yes, the kind of abuse of hospitality related in the first post could result in all hospitality being revoked. IF Walmart was aware.
So, if they are not aware, how does it help to make them aware???

it should also be noted turning a blind eye for what ever reason can also cause things to get out of hand. It might be the manager didn't know and is now aware of the situation and can do what managers are supposed to do (what ever that is)

I can't imagine staying at a Walmart all night and actually sleeping. You guys that do are a better man than I, Gunga Din.

Not sure why what happens in their parking lot, other than criminal activity, is any concern of the OP`s.
How about just mind your business?

So........on an Internet Opinion Chat Site, I gave my opinion of what I'd do or not do........and somehow that is translated to being a busybody that wants to be a hero????????????? I'd think giving an opinion on an OPINION CHAT site is my business. And yours. And his. Etc.
Boy am I lost.

When it comes to someone taking actions that could cause a major chain to change its currently RV-friendly attitude? Yes. It is.

You gave your thoughts/opinions and made a case. But if it's your JOB to change anyone's mind, you probably won't get paid this week since some minds can't be changed by other peoples' opinions.

I agree. I’m an avid Wallydocker but just don’t see the point of tattling at all.

I actually work for another big box retailer that allows. It's mostly because there is no corporate policy. No one cares, as long as you keep it clean, don't get in the way, don't bother other customers, and don't leave anything behind. A little common sense goes a LONG way.
Common sense: Don't make depressions in asphalt. Don't fire up a grill. Don't set up chairs. Leave in the morning. All stuff that everyone on this forum already know.
And most of all, don't be there in the early morning on Black Friday (I've seen it). Every retailer needs every parking space.
