Why you need a freshwater supply

We never move our unit but do keep the freshwater tank full, use the onboard pump at least once a month and change that water supply every three months. A neighbor thought we were nuts until yesterday. The campground supply well pump went bad and could not be replaced until today. So no water for campers, central toilets or washing machines. We flipped on our pump and our neighbor came over and apologized as he and his wife were heading to a motel for the night. An extended power outage would have yielded the same result except you do not know how long the outage will last. Folks, stuff happens and if you can be prepared at little or no cost, why not?

I do the same thing for the exact same reasons you do.

We travel with a full FW tank for that reason and has been useful a few times. Was nice to have water when there wasn't any in the CG.

We travel with some water in the FW tank for flushing, etc. A full tank adds a lot of weight when traveling.

I am usually at a seasonal site and my tank is always full. I am always surprised by the number of people who exclaim “What a great idea” when we have water and they don’t. It just seems like a no-brainer to me.

I used to play that game until I had exactly the same problem as the OP.

Always figured my next stop at a FH campground would have all the water I needed. Worked fine until I pulled into a campground in Idaho. Shortly after arriving the area was hit with a thunderstorm and lightning took out power for the rest of the day and well into the next. No power for the camp's pump thus no water. Not even in the tank.

I just fill up before leaving in the morning and have yet to notice any difference on hills or in fuel mileage. If it does make a noticeable difference you don't have enough tow vehicle (or engine in your Motor Home).

Exactly. on one trip the grounds guy broke a pie with the lawn mover. No water for an hour or two - not bad. I had water in the tank. on another occasion the power went out during a storm, again, I had water. I was more concerned about running my batteries down since generators are not allowed to be used. Neighbors would not likely appreciate it at 1 or 2 am either, I suspect.

We always keep some fresh water in the holding tank. Had to use that water supply a few times before.
