2016 Salem Paint peeling

Purchased a 2016 Salem 27RKSS. We have had it for just a year. a went through a rain Strom in N. Dakota and noticed the paint was peeling off.the front other the trailer. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I have contacted my dealer and am waiting to hear back.

Not to high jack your thread, but how do you like your 27RKSS? I will be picking up my 17' 27RKSS tomorrow. Sorry to hear about the paint, I have been doing a ton of research and have not seen any other posts/issues pertaining to the paint peeling. Hopefully it is corrected, especially on such a new trailer.

we have had issues with the axles. The ones on the trailer in my opion are to small. Two 3500 lb axles, with a trailer weight of 7700. If you are planning to do much traveling you will be over weight quickly, and have problems. If you do contact Lippert directly. They do not repair axles, they replace them.

I wonder why they would put such small axles on the trailer. Thanks for the advice, definitely something I will check into. We plan on using it locally, and once a year in the OBX. Which is around 2,500 miles for us give or take.

Those are the proper axles as some of the weight rides on the tongue. No extra capacity just the right size.............

No extra capacity is correct. If you do you will have a camber issue. And Lippert Components do not authorized alignments. They replace them.

Yes, we had the same thing happen on our 2015 Salem Cruise Lite last April. Went through a thunderstorm and the paint peeled on the nose cone. After talking to our dealer, who couldn't help us, we contacted Forest River and they sent a new panel to a local Forest River body shop and they installed it at no cost to us and in a timely manner. The body shop told us they hadn't primed the panel before painting, so it eventually peeled. They should do the same for you. Take a picture of it like below and send it with your email. If you need names, I think I still have a contact person at FR. He was good to work with. Good Luck.

Thanks gfarmcafe, if you have any names I would appreciate them. I have gone to my dealer, who took some pics, but haven't heard back and it's been a week. May just contact FR personally.

I was thinking someone on here had the same problem and the factory took care of them. Glad they got on here and got you going in right direction.

Here is the information you requested. Mr. Bigler was easy to work with and told me that if I couldn't find a Forest River dealer with a body shop (ours didn't), we could use another, pay for it ourselves and they would reimburse us. We did find another dealer within 6 miles of where we purchased ours and they took care of ordering and installing it.

I have pictures. I called my dealer and they told me it's a known issue. They repaired seven trailers prior to my contact. One full year out of warranty and FR paid for parts and labor. THEY REPLACED THE METAL ON THE ENTIRE FRONT END.
I also had the unit pressure checked. Two marker lights were not sealed properly and leaked water into the unit.

If the pealing is a "known issue", I would think they would they would do a recall of these model years so the nose caps can be either replaced or repainted using primer first. Apparently, hard rain starts the process. So far, nothing has leaked around the seams or lights.

I have been waiting for two weeks for an answer, nothing yet. Guess it's time for the ugly side to come out.

reply to peeling issue

I only waited a few days. The reply from FR appears below. Contact between my dealer (purchased new and out of warranty) and FR resulted in a complete paid repair at the dealer.

I have my supervisor approval for you to take the trailer to a dealer and have them send the estimate for repairs to our warranty representative Tony Hufnagle at 574-537-1175 and his e-mail is thufnagle@forestriverinc.com Thank you for your assistance and enjoy the upcoming season !!

Today, we went thru heavy rain and now the bottom panel has started to peel. I've contacted Forest River again and hope they can replace it also. The paint gets very soft from the rain and then it peels like a banana. Seems like it's almost water soluble and, of course, the metal caps weren't primed. If there's a forum monitor reading this, what can be done to recall these models?

If it is not a known issue can it be a wax or soap or something that created this ??
