282RK A/C Vent Improvements (Pics)
After reading about Bama Ramblers mods and other a/c related tips on this forum, I decided to replace my ceiling vents and check out the duct work for leaks. I found that the ducts went way too far past the end vents in the kitchen and bedroom. I fashioned a couple of plugs out of insulating foam and pushed them back about 8 inches past the vent. I then sealed the corners with foil tape. I also checked the seal between the return and the output from the fan. There was a big gap allowing cold air to be sucked right back up the return. I sealed this as well. Finally I replace the vents with the kind that can be closed to force air to the bedroom at night.

7/8". However, so far three of us I know of have done the swap and the new vent part pops right into the existing ceiling mounted ring.

Thanks Teamfour.....I also have a 282RK and wondered how I could get more air to the bedroom. The bathroom is like a walk-in freezer, while the bedroom remains warm. I will use your solutions to solve this problem....many thanks!

Good job.
I've still got a couple things to do to the ducting in our unit, but I'm doing basically the same thing you did.
Our duct extends a fairly good distance past the vent in the bedroom, and I've thought about adding a second vent past the first, but I'm holding off on it until I get a little more usage data from what I've already done, because it may not need the extra air in there now.
I can tell you that just from what I've done, you can stand at the kitchen sink and feel a good flow of air out the ceiling vent now, where before you wondered if it was blowing anything out.
Given a little time and effort, we'll make these units like they should have been from the factory.

FR sent me returns and vents because we were getting way too much condensation even through our ceiling fan that actually shorted out our thermostat. Now, after adding two more returns and re-making the thermostat attachments..our A/C is running great.

Teamfour I have a 282rk also.
What color vents did you get to match the best?

Good Job Teamfour its all about air flow and ever little bit helps make the system more efficient, looks like you have a handle on it.

Just be aware that those from Amazon aren't the same size as the vent's in our units. We had to order the 'Large' #8850 vents to fit our existing openings.
