How would I know if I have electric brakes or hydraulic brakes in my trailer?

Do you have a brake controller in your truck hooked to the battery?

I just had the brake controller installed yesterday so I am assuming it's connected to the battery. The brake controller is asking if we have electric brakes or hydraulic brakes

Yes, electric brakes on most rvs that we tow..most not all.

To be sure: Look behind the wheel of the trailer. If you see a wire going in, it's electric. If you see a brake line (metal tube or hose) going in, it's hydraulic.

Something isn't working. I trod setting it up as "electric" and it keeps saying "trailer not detected". I am not sure if I am doing something wrong or if the rv shop hooked it up wrong.

What vehicle do you have? Most of the time the brake wire needs to be connected at the fuse block. Give a little more info on what you got.
