From my experience over the past 4 years, it’s like calling the IRS - you get a different answer/process every time. One guy checked all lights and the break-away brake switch/gear. The next year the same guy did all that PLUS he got on a shop creeper and rolled around under the unit. Another shop checked all lights then drove it 1/2 block and operated the factory brake controller. All have eyeballed the tires.

Consider relocating to someplace that does not have inspections.

I take mine to a place that checks the lights and looks at the breakaway switch. Most places don't do more than that. Find a place that makes it easy to get in and out of. The rest is easy. Where in Texas are you?

Iíve done it 4 times, first and second time the guy checked the turn signals and brake lights, third time I was in route to a campout in Waco and had it done on the way at a heavy duty tire shop along I35, turn signals and brake lights again and then the ďinspectorĒ made me move my breakaway attachment point from my hitch closure keeper pin to a permanent location on the tow vehicle, easy fix on the fly, the fourth time it was the turn signals and brake lights again, Iíve never had anyone check the brakes or tow it.

$7 and 12 minutes per year is cheaper than moving.

Ah. Can't help with a specific place then. Just find a place that does inspections (a garage rather than those little drive thru inspection places), one with plenty of space to be able to get in and out easily, then see if they inspect trailers. Many will. It's really a piece of cake.
