Filling fresh water tank. Vent line?

When I fill the water tank, I have to go extremely slow because water burps out as I fill it. I see some silicone near the fill hole. I hope someone didn't plug the vent line! Is that how it is supposed to look?

I have been able to fill it but I have to go super slow.

I hate to say, but it does look like a glob of silicone is blocking that.

Hopefully there is a vent line connected to it. You may be able to take the water pump access panel off and see the filler hose and also see of theres a vent line as well.

I am almost certain that the vent tube is under that glob of silicone. If you are not the original owner, it may have been added by the original owner. You should be able to carefully remove it and there should be a small screen over the vent.

I always thought there was a vent tube behind that screened vent hole...but there is not!

At least in my 5'ver anywayz.

I just had to work in there and discovered that this screened hole is nothing but an open vent into the basement.

Now, on my previous bumper pull, that was a vent for the fresh water tank.

If you can get behind the wall where that water inlet is and look to see if there is a hose connected to it.

Probably a 50/50 chance there is or is not.

That is supposed to have a vet tube under that glob. We had one but when the dealer replaced the water pump, the tech pulled the vent tube off the port. It was laying on the floor waiting to flood under the sink,next time I filled up. My solar installer noticed it, so I got the dealer to fix it.

Not necessarily. Check for the tube. My Cherokee was covered because there was no vent. It had a vent above the tank. Only the inlet hose ran from that port on our unit.

Mine is covered like that also. The actual vent line goes through the floor and comes out under the trailer. I would not remove the sealant until I knew there was a vent line attached.

I'm guessing the previous owner sealed off the vent tube to stop it from siphoning water out of the tank during travel. Maybe.

ive had 1 unit with that set up. you could fill at full blast and when it was full it flowed over

Like others have said the vent tube for the FW tank may have been rerouted. Take the three screws off holding the cover on and take a look. there should be two tubes connected to the back. A large hose is the fill hose and the one smaller in diameter is the vent tube. If it is not there I would make sure it did not fall off and the previous owner just put some silicone on it.

My guess is that somebody put that silicone over that vent hole to keep the basement heat from leaking out of that hole.

I may just do that to mine, although I've already stuffed some insulation around it inside, so probably isn't necessary.

This is common problem. See it there is tubing ran from the water tank vent to the fill vent. My 26rr and 27rr had a elbow hooked to a 2 inch hose on the water tank, nothing hooked to the vent.

My TT came with the same blob from the factory, my vent line is under the trailer right next to the drain valve. I had to put a valve on the vent hose to stop it from siphoning the tank dry. Over all I am not impressed with the quality control at Salem.

X2. Our current rig had that hole siliconed and the vent tube run under the trailer coming out near the drain tube. Since then, I've seen several RVs with the same configuration.

I've never had a gravity fed fresh water fill that I could fill at full blast. I just turn on the hose about 1/4 of the way and slowly fill the tank until it comes out the overflow/vent tube. Patience is the key

Also, every rig we have ever had would siphon from the vent tube. I always install a valve I close when tank is full. And since it is gravity fed, the fill tube caps always have a small hole in them so there are no worries about forgetting to open the valve and pulling a suction when using water. Won't happen. Now if you have one of the new systems that uses the pump to fill the tank, that might be a different situation as far as usage causing a suction with vent valve closed.
