What are you asking about, the furnace, water heater, frig, stove top, oven? The furnace has spark ignition (no pilot light), the water heater also has spark ignition just make sure it is filled with water or it can operate on 110V when plugged into shore power (separate switch on the outside for that) , the stove top has a knob to turn to cause a spark for ignition, the oven has a manually lit pilot, the frig should be set on "auto" so it will operate on LP or when plugged into shore power will operate on 110V. When you first turn on the LP, open the tank valve slowly then go to the stove top and turn on the gas and keep turning the spark ignition knob until you get a burner to light. Let that operate for a few minutes to clear any air in the gas line then the furnace, frig and water heater should work without any problems.

So in summer months, no need for propane if plugged in?

The water heater should fill up on its own though, correct?

First off , no the WH does not fill on its own. You need propane for the stove and/or the frig to operate while you travel to keep it cooled. The water heater will only fill if the RV is dewinterized properly. The way to check the WH fill is while hooked up to a water source pull on the lever on the relief valve on the outside at the WH until you get water coming out, then you will know it is filled. If you operate the WH on electric without water it will burn up the heating element in about 30 seconds. Lots of You Tube videos on the subject.

BTW, look at videos on proper WH maintenance. If you have a Suburban WH it will have a sacrificial anode rod that should be checked to see if it is still good. You need a 1 1/16" socket to remove the anode rod, if needed you can get one at any camper store or big box store for about $10, just get the proper length. If the anode rod is worn you may need to flush the tank out to get rid of any residue from the old rod.
Also check videos on winterizing and dewinterizing a RV for proper bypass valve positioning. That operation is similar on just about any RV.

We use electric whenever possible while on shore power. The only exceptions to this are when we use the oven or the outside grill, both of these require propane.

Not necessarily true. If it's really hot out, your voltage from the post is low and you got the AC cranked up, you might want give it a second thought as to how much more electrical load to tax the system with and run the HW and fridge on propane. Good sales pitch for EMS systems!

You can order it from Walmart online and have it shipped to your local store for pickup. While you are at it pick up the tank rinser wand.

I think we are going to use the TT this weekend so I'll take the old rod out and take it with me to work to match it up plus get the rinsed rod. Lots to do on Friday to get ready! Hoping the equalizer install goes quickly! Watching some videos to get ready.
Thanks for the help! I would have never thought about a rod for the water heater. Asked my brother and he had no idea one was there so I'm sure it's in bad shape.

I am assuming you have a Suburban WH, if you have an Atwood WH it will have a nylon plug and they don't use a anode rod.

This is what I have. I purchased a new one so hopefully it's the right one. Anyone confirm it's an anode?
