General questions...

Ok so i am sitting here thinking about stuff i need for the future and just to better understand my new trailer ( its full time use)
1. Would this work for my use its the rv surge protector. https://www.rvupgradestore.com/Progr...p/emspt30x.htm
2. In line water filter (connects to the city water supply) not sure how good the current water supply is? But its cheap enough plus i been using bottled water for coffee maker and drinking water. If i get this that would mean everything is filtered and would slow my flow rate down?
3. The heater is it propane only or can it be ran on electric?
4. Texas winters- what do i need to know to keep my pipes from busting? It has a enclosed under belly but not heated?

Thank you

Edit on the filtered water. i come from a small town, tap water would kill coffee makers, etc...
had a coffee maker last 2 years with bottled water use plus drinking it had a bad flavor etc...

Also anything else i need to know (got my hot water heater topic covered)

#1 - Yes, Progressive Industries EMS is the best.

#2- Yes and Maybe. Yes, whole house filter, Maybe slow your flow, depends on the micron filtration.

#3- No, Propane only but many here, myself included supplement the propane furnace with a ceramic electric heater.

#4- Multiple days below freezing will freeze your city water hose and tanks without heat tape on the hose and tank heater pads.

Yes, that unit or the hard wired version if your rig is 30 amp.

I have the 50 amp hard wired version with remote display. I can view at a glance the trailers electrical status from inside the trailer. I like it much better than the portable version I had on my old rig.
Buy here instead, much better prices.

General questions...

Thank you that was the first thing that popped up on google. Only reason i am thinking of the portable is for the fact its plug and play.

You are welcome.
The hard wired version is not hard to install with minimal electrical experience or an electrician can do it for you. There are many threads here and many YouTube videos.
Yes, the portable version is plug and play but you need to lock it up (easy) and go to the EMS to check your status.

Here are a few pics of my EMS-HW50C 50 Amp Hardwired EMS with Remote Display.

The hard wired unit works on any unit. The biggest issue is to decide where to put it. Some members have cut the umbilical like me and others have removed the power wires from the converter and added a 6 gauge wire extension (50 amp version, 8 gauge for 30 amp?) back to the converter.
Let us know, we'll help you.
Keep us posted.

The install should take an electrician an hour of billable service. The majority of us here did the install ourselves. (2 to 3 beer install)
Either way, you should get around to it BEFORE you plug the trailer into your first campsite pedestal.
You will enjoy the remote display as it will help you monitor your 30 amp service usage. The AC will be running, the microwave turned on, and then you fire up the electric skillet or the wife turns on the hair dryer and poof, you pop the 30 amp main breaker. You will see it happen in real time from inside your rig.

Thanks I kinda wish I would have known about this sooner it’s currently plugged in, and only ac is running and fridge. I like that instill time. Thats how i did my nerf bars on my truck.

I got it Saturday with the intention of full timing it, my logic why pay for apartment rent when a trailer and lot cost the same (as a decent apartment) and its yours to keep if you decide to move.

My rig is on a seasonal site.... Since may 1st of this year, (brand new 50 amp line installed by electric company) the EMS has protected my rig from 1 high voltage and 3 low voltage events. Get it done as soon as you can.

#1 - yes, ours just protected us when I plugged in a bad power strip, tripped and turned off whole rv instantly.

#2 - we use a zero water filter. Takes total dissolved solids down to zero as the name says and each filter is good for about 15 gallons of filtered water. We also have one of the inline ones hooked up to filter before it comes in.

#3 - unless you get the heat pump option it would be propane only. Friends of ours have a cycling electric heater they use when they don't need full blown furnace type heat.

#4 - no idea here since I am in Ohio [emoji3]

I can't believe the power is so dirty that you need a surge protector, that's all.

I guess it's even worse running a generator.

I operate large generators (up to 1.5 MW) and they aren't perfectly clean, I guess the hospitals and such we hook up to must have their own protections built in.

For water, I use the crappy water filter installed from the factory.

All of our drinking water goes through a Berkey Water Filter. We fill 2 gallon jugs so we always have clean cold water in the fridge.

I honestly don’t know if mine has one.
