Generator won't run A/C

So I posted in another topic that I bought a dometic lw3000 plus and it would run my 13500 a/c. Well that was before I tried to run it on a hot day 😓.

On our last trip 4th of July weekend I tried to run ac. the fan would run for about 30 seconds then trip the generator. I saw a video on youtube showing how to run the ac w this generator but still no luck.

Do I need a bigger generator? Or would a hard start capacitor help. I donot see that the ac has one. The TT is a 2014 26tbud.

When trying to run your AC, was the water heater and refrigerator on propane? If on electric you probably were exceeding capacity of your generator.

1. Do you have a way to check how many Amp the air conditioner draws, looks like the generator can deliver max. 23 Amp at 120 Volts.
2. Make sure nothing else draws electricity and the batteries are fully charged, the converter/charger draws a substantial amount of power until the batteries are full.
3. Don't use extension cords.

According to their website, it should be able to power your AC.

(With a clean, stable power for all home or work applications, the LW3000 Plus easily powers a 13,500 BTU air conditioner.)

I have a Yamaha 3000 and it powers my 13.5K AC with ease. Maybe you need to install a hard start capacitor. Others will chime in with more info at what to do next hopefully.

I'm guessing your converter/charger is still charging the batteries which can be between ~5 and ~15 Amp AC, when you add the initial draw from the air conditioner of ~15 to ~20 Amp that could be too much.
Try running the generator for at least and hour or so before you start the air conditioner.

Only difference is your Yamaha 3000iseb has the boost option which the OP's doesn't have, that makes it a little trickier.

Our Yamaha 3000Sib also has trouble sometimes even when not in ECO depending on outside air temp.

Putting in a time delay module to delay fan start up until after the compressor is on speed solved it.

Herk, I installed the Amp/Volt meters you recommended a couple of weeks ago, they are a real eye opener. Thanks

I have the same generator/set up. We need to use the A/C during the summer camping we do in the southern Utah desert. (105) yesterday. Had the exact same problem when the temps were hi. The 30 amp breaker would trip when the compressor would kick in. Called dometic customer support. Excellent response! They'll need the model number from the A/C unit. If you need to find it just remove the plastic diffuser inside the TT. There is a factory sticker right there. Don't forget your glasses. They sent me a soft start kit no charge specific for the model A/C on the TT. Wired it up inside the A/C unit and have not any issues since. Their customer support folks absolutely stand behind their claim that the Dometic 3000 gennie will run the 13,500 A/C. It will. Just remember higher outside temps increase amp draw in your electrical service cord that feeds the TT so keep that cord as short as possible. And don't run a 100 ft extension cord cause that adds amp draw as well.
Like others have said. Let the Gennie run on full throttle for several minutes before running the A/C. Have the fridge on gas or just off for a few minutes.
Turn on the A/C and enjoy the comfort with a cold beverage.

Real nice job and you can see the load on each line of your 50 amp service.
Perfect

ICM Relay,Time Delay - Cooling Equipment Relays - 4E233|ICM102 - Grainger Industrial Supply

Goes in the thermostat line to the fan. 12 volt control power and NOT the 120 volt AC side.

The number in Elkhart Indiana is 574-294-2511
I think that's one I used. There was also an 800 # 800-544-4881, 888-446-5157
You'll be OK with that cord good heavy #10 gauge

Like others have said make sure everything is off except the ac but I found that in Auto mode, on the thermostat, the Ac would not start on a real hot day. I switched it to the on mode and ran the fan for a few minutes then switched on the cool mode and it worked fine. That was on an old 3000 watt gen I had. Looking to get a new one and was hoping the one you have would do what I wanted plz let us know if any of the tricks mentioned in the posts you received worked.
