Help with Honda EU2000i

I'm going to rent this generator for a short boondocking trip this weekend (1 night/2day). It's a small 19ft TT with very little power to use. I've only used shore power before so this is new to me but I'm installing an inverter this week. I need advice on how to use the genny. I'm assuming I plug my TT 30amp plug directly into to the gen but it only has 20 amp receptacle? I've been looking for an adapter but all I can find is a 15amp-to-30amp adapter. Is that the same thing? If I use it will I get less power then a 20amp adapter?

I'd like to find one locally due to the time frame, but may have to order one overnight. I found these two below but don't know which one is right??

Amazon.com: Camco 55333 30 AMP 3-Prong Generator Adapter: Automotive

Hi,

I'm thinking that I've seen those adapters in Home Depot, Menards, and Lowes. Are you close to any of them.

The other option would be to ask the source of your rental if they have one laying around, since you likely wouldn't be the first person renting on of these who had that problem.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Home Depot has this one, but in the plug it actually says 15amp instead of 20. Are they the same?

One single 2000i only puts out 13.3 amps. When you parallel it to another or a companion, you get 26.6 amps. You should be fine with the 15amp converter since you wont see that much from just one gen.

I posted the info below just as S1LV3R4D0 was posting - so it looks like Home Depot solved your problem. So here is what I had posted;

Good idea richp had about asking the renter. It appears you have Cullum & Maxey Camping Center and Camping World in Nashville near you. Many, of not most campground stores have these adapters, so maybe you are near one of those. Also a tip; plug up using the adapter, throw the main breaker in your camper, then start the generator and let it warm up just a few minutes prior to flipping the circuit breaker back "on". It can save you some trouble.

The one from Amazon will work just fine. I did not look at the other one.

Since the Honda 2000 can only deliver about 1,600 watts continuous, you will never achieve powering a 20A load. I am thinking you will be able to run everything without a problem - except maybe the AC.

Now if you want to run a toaster, hair dryer, fry pan, curling iron together, forget it.

Individually is no problem for any, but the sound might be different.

A toaster? It seriously can't run a 2 slice toaster ?

Not sure I will need the AC yet, but mine is only a 8,000 BTU. I've heard several people say they can run that off their genny as long as the microwave isn't on?

Hi you can probably get away with the 8000 btu ac. But like post #7 said you can only run one big power load at a time. So you will have to chose what big power loads you need. This is not a very big generator but for its size and gas consumption it is a nice unit. If you want more power you can rent 2 of them and Parallel them and double the power out put. Or you can rent one that is rated at 3100 watts.

Hope this helps Tim

These are nice and less likely the weight of your plug will pull the adaptor out of the generator:

Yes, but you just can't exceed the generator's output by simultaneously running high-demand appliances. You might not need to install an inverter, since that generator provides 12V DC also.

I do not know if you have tried the generator yet--but everytime I stay at a Walmart I have to use mine, and in the morning I do the coffee once that is done, the generator shift back to normal, and I get my 2 toast Cuisinart toaster to work without any problem, being doing that for 3 years.

Why does everyone say the honda 2000w doesn't power anything. Been using it this weekend for a test run. It's running my 8,000 btu AC and fridge just fine. It even runs the microwave, keurig, or toaster with those on. Granted it does kick up into high with the 3 appliance but still works. Seems like I could get by fine with only this for my 195bh??? Am I missing something?

Cause most of the larger rv's have 13.5k or greater ac units and electric WH also. Large demand items.

We usually just take one and it does the job just fine- if we need ac we bring the second one or book hookups.

Maybe I spoke too soon. After running the AC for about an hour it just kicked off with the overload light on

If you are aware of what you are asking the gen to do, the 2000 will be just fine.

I have had a 3000 since 2003 and if I had to do it again, I would get a 2000. We almost never use the AC, and prefer propane for the HW unless at a CG with power.

Off topic but the powers to be a couple years ago have the a c units using less amps. Wal mart sells a 5 k btu that pulls less than 5 amps. We use it on our houseboat and it runs the ac the frig house lights TV and box all work together off our Honda 2000, at the same time, and that's with the Honda sitting some 30 to 45 feet from the boat.

Perhaps both compressors didn't kick on at the same time frig an ac. I couldn't say
