How much of a discount is normal on a new Salem camper?

The list price was $27,300 but I only paid $17,400 out the door, including tax and title. It was the last 2015 model on the lot (we have had it for a few months now), so I figured I got a good discount because of that.

Is it normal to get such a large discount? Are the list prices just bogus? It seemed like such a good value for a 262BHXL with all the options, I couldn't resist...

By the way, we had normal issues such as insufficient cleaning before delivery and a couple of minor things that were handled by the dealer. Everything is great now.

What kind of discounts are others getting?

I purchased my Hemisphere 272rlis about 2 months ago. It is a 2016 bought new. The asking price was $36000 and we paid $29900. They were trying to get rid of the 2015 models for the same price. I told them I wanted the 2016 for same as 2015 and they did it. We took it that day. Did not get it detailed because we left the dealer and went camping for the weekend. Used it 4 times already. Left camp yesterday and I couldn't get the rear stab jack to come up with switch or link pad. Had to manually put it up. A few other little things so it's going in to shop tomorrow to get fixed under warranty. Hope they get it all done because we are heading out again in 3 weeks.

Generally a competitive dealer will discount 30% from MSRP. A REAL competitive dealer may discount up to another 5%. A lot will depend on how long the RV has been in inventory. If they have a floor plan coming due they may want to get it off the lot.

I ordered my 2016 and paid 35% off the Factory invoice. Dealer did not add any dollars for delivery from factory and did not charge for their excellent prep and PDI.

When the deal has to go up the highest-manager on the lot, and he/she's pissed off because of it, THEN you know you are getting a good deal!

You want them to say, "We're not making any money on this deal"

(Works for vehicles, too!!)

Problem is, do you believe them when they say it? Our local dealer seems pretty good, though.

This is good information for future reference. I hope I am not buying another one anytime soon, but please keep it coming.
Not to say that my discount was higher than yours, but to find out what is normal across the industry.

That's SOP. They always say we're not making any money on this deal. Believe me if they can't make any money on the deal you won't get it. They own it and don't have to sell it to you. The sales manager always seems to have to approve the deal but when they leave you sitting in their office how do you know where they went. He could have gone to the bathroom and you wouldn't know the difference. It's part of their programmed procedure. I've had them have me waiting 10-15 minutes for an answer but when you get up and head for the door they spring into action. I used to love to shop for cars. I could drive them crazy. I've got some good deals but have NEVER got a car for below their cost or even break even deal, they always made a profit. Which they always should, I want them to stay in business so they can resolve any problems I have.
