Kids and slide out switches

Our special ordered 2016 368RLBHK is now home and I am getting ready to enjoy it when the warmer weather arrives. In the 4 or so times my 2 year old son has been in the new unit he has pushed a different slide out button every time on his own. Any good ideas short of putting commercial thermostat covers over the switches so he doesn't ruin something by pulling in a slide on his own?

I would locate the fusebox and pull the fuse for the slideout. That would take care of it. Plug it back in when you need to slide it back in for travel.

my first try would be to teach him not to touch things...if that failed just pull the fuses out

Kids and slide out switches

We cover them with gallery wrapped pictures- they're approximately 1" deep and if you hang it with a 3M hook and wire, you can slide your hand under it without removing it.

Our kids weren't so much the problem as guests were- the slide switches are right where a light switch should be.

Our Control panel for all functions is located just inside the entrance door,on a Upper cabinet! Unless your child is in the Draft for the NBA,there is NO way they are going to Reach ours! With No Pic. where yours is located it is hard to guess on a Cover or Mod to ChildProof the Slide switches! Youroo!! Our switch location "upper right in Pic"!

X2 I agree our slide out switch is on the kitchen cabinet just under the sink counter top just a couple feet inside the door........ just at the right height for curious hands........ Our grandson is 2 he has touched it a couple times he gets a firm NO!! He is almost 3 now and leaves it alone. He has been camping since he was two months old. He has plenty of other stuff (toys) to keep his interest elsewhere.

Our problem was the switches for the Electric stab jacks. Those are right by the bottom of the frame, perfect height for a curious toddler while they play outside.

I just used the 'pull the fuse' method until I could teach him that adjusting the jacks wasn't nice.

Our son has been camping since he was 2 weeks old, but our previous trailer had switches in a better location. Now all of the slide switches are directly next to light switches. I may just have to go with the pull the fuse technique. My other thought on the Main Control Panel is to cover it with a cabinet and relocate the light switches outside the box. I have even found myself pushing the wrong switch in the dark already.

I agree, TEACH him not to touch things that are not his. We did this with 4 kids and it served us well--AND served the kids well! Additionally, it sure makes shopping and visiting other peoples home a lot more enjoyable. Like most things with raising kids, for every minute you spend teaching them, you'll get years of benefits back!

I have had some units in the past where there was a key switch that had to be turned on to make the slide switches work. It would not be too hard to install one.

The problem is not so much my 2 year old wanting to play with switches, the problem is the location of the slide, water heater and awning switches in relationship to the lights. I don't need a class in parenting, I need to keep mistakes from happening.

Great idea. I will get the Blue back lighted switches for all of the lights.

Suddenly it's not the 2 year old, it's the switch location? Thread entitled " Kids and slide out switches". Well ok then!

Oh it is definitely the kids. They are allowed to turn on lights, but pretty hard to know the difference between the awning or slide out and a light switch on those panels when you can't read yet.

My mother and father raised four kids and my mother refused to put anything away or up out of our reach. If we touched something we were not supposed to we got told not to touch it again, if we did then we got our butts busted. We raised our kids and grandkids the same way. Kids need to learn limits and two years old is not to young to start teaching what he can touch and what he can't. It will pay rewards many times over in the future. This advice is free so take it or leave it. You will suffer the consequences.

Now back to your original question. If the above advice is not an option then you can pull the fuses or put a cover over the switches.
